The gaming mouse monopoly

and it takes one second with a quick glance to the keyboard :)

Not when you factor looking down and looking back up :p

Its obvious that you and Spectre have a different opinion, but to each to their own.

Personally I use a helluva lot more than WASD. I play ET in Leagues, my config uses almost every key on the keyboard including the number pad and all the functions keys.

Really? What team? I do too. It's good too see someone else on these forums who plays at that level dispite the fact that its so old.

I would like to mention that the Logitech G15 is the most useful keyboard I've ever owned. It has fairly good key travel for a modern keyboard, and a multitude of functions. The media controls work as global hotkeys for just about any media player that allows them. It even one touch mute volume. The backlight is adjustable, and the macro keys are top notch for all sorts of applications. It has two USB ports built right in for small peripherals you may hae laying around. Of course, the screen is the best part. Many games, including WoW have built in functionality for the G15's backlit LCD. Also, there are a number of logitech developed plugins, and a free SDK to make your own if you are so inclined.

There may be a lot of things out there that are victims of marketing, but the G15 really does have functionality above and beyond being XTREEEEEEEEM! ;)

I am sure once most people have their hands down on the keyboard there is not much looking down as that will take too much time unless you are playing something like a turn-based strategy game because even in games that require a signficant amount of keys such as MMORPGS, you still make the keys close to your hands so that you do not have to look down.

Now when you move your hands from one device to another should be the only time that a lighted keyboard may help, but even then do you actually look down. It takes all but 2 seconds to find the home row. Maybe I am in the minority here, but I surely doubt it with the amount of time people spend on their computers.
Jesus christ man, i rarely post in threads but you are so hardheaded its more then necessary. YOU LOOK AT YOUR KEYBOARD. I gaurentee you do. A millisecond glance you probably do subconciously. if you dont then your playin a fps with just the wasd keys. I personally am an excellent typer. I play WoW religiously and in the midddle of heated pvp I use everyone of my key binds. Which includes every button to the left of YHN including ` tab shift control alt and combinations of shift+letters. If i miss a key I blow a 5 min cooldown and i die. I dont have a lighted keyboard but i CANNOT play in the dark. If i had a lighted keyboard I would be fine. Dont be arrogant. Lighted keyboards may not be worth an extra twenty dollars but it is a feature that "has physical advantages".

I love my G15 and MX1000, I woud use nothing else... none of my old MS mice can even compare and I hate MS keyboards.

LCD on teh G15 Useless? I'm suprised anyone would say that on an OC forum..

Mine provides readouts of CPU, NB, PWMIC, Processor load (for each CPU), Memory Load, At all times. It also allows me to Play MP3's, fastforward, rewind, skip a track, and displays the media information of what is playin while I am inside games. Click another display and I get the Date and Time in a split second without alt-tabbing into the desktop...

Hardly Marketing hype IMO. And I do like the Illuminated keys also, if not just pleasing to the eye I have a hard time finding number keys on a black keyboard in the dark, although you don't typicaly need to constantly look at your keyboard when gaming, sometimes searching for a button in a pitch dark environment on a black keyboard is not very easy, especialy when playing a game like Doom 3 which is already very dark and does not provide much ambient light at all.

So yea I glance at my keyboard ALL the time, especialy when I'm drinking a nice ice cold beer while playing any game. Yes I COULD do without it, but jeez it sure does help at times!

Dammit.

To each his own.

There are 2 schools of thought (practice) here. Those of us who occasionally look down at our keyboards to find the keys in the dark, and those who feel for it. Those who feel for it probably already know it.

Then there is the middle ground, which is me. I do both. :D

Concerning the G series and the MX series by Logitech. Can you mix devices from each series? In other words, does the G15 keyboard require the use of a G5 or G7 mouse or would a Logitech MX518 mouse be compatible with a G15 keyboard?

I ask because I'm getting a MX518 mouse and just wondered if I were to get a G15 keyboard if I'd have driver conflicts or software issues.

no conflicts. I think they use the same drivers now anyway.. I know older mice used to use mouseware or something, but now it is setpoint.

I've been using a Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 for a few months now, and I really like it.

Wouldn't that be a duopoly, then?

Oligopoly to be precise. I took economics last semester at school ;)
