The Future Gem of the Computing World

cpus that can run several hundred degrees? even though the dimands can take that heat i'm still not easy with that. i'll stick to my watercooling thank you very much.

and one problem with dimands is yes they are excellent conductors of heat, but not great at disappapating heat. minor problem to be overlooked i'm sure but that means no dimand heat sinks (maybe a dimond core?)

I read that Wired article a while ago, but it was very interesting.

However, as they haven't made diamonds conduct an electric current yet, I don't think we should be expecting diamond processing for a while. But it would be cool because diamond's melting point is much higher than silicon's; of course, I'm not sure the other parts in your system could withstand that kind of heat if it ever got that bad.

They're conducting something, this quote is from the first article...
"Already, experimental diamond transistors have been clocked at 81GHz. For comparison, Intel demonstrated cutting-edge silicon transistors in a lab late last year--running at 10GHz."

Cool, we might get this sooner than I thought.

Strangely, as far as I remember, the Wired article, which is dated later than the geek.com one, made no mention of that, instead saying that they haven't made diamonds conduct a current yet.

But right now, I want to buy one of these diamonds as an engagement ring and see how she'd react.
