Seriously.

"You like shopping at Newegg.
Stop flying blind."

What is it doing to track that i go to newegg or follow newegg links?

I've never accepted terms of service here stating [H] can spy on sites I visit.

LOL. [H] is hating on the egg very hard ever since the egg told them to shove it up their ass. Now, the entire long standing user base here has to deal with spam type ads or leave (says the lemmings).

Kyle is all about the ad revenue these days. Many have left because of it, too.

It's just guessing. Newegg and the [H] are just no longer working together so the [H] is hating hard on them.
It's been like this for some time now.

Note: Fuck Amazon, Newegg is still on top, IMO.

I have looked into what they do, and they don't monitor most of your web browsing experience. The script they use just automatically rewrites all the outgoing links on Hardforum to send you to a redirect page that scans for to see if it was a Newegg link. If it wasn't, it just sends you on ahead, and if it was, then it tries to harass you into buying the item at Amazon instead.

I sometimes feel a bit insulted by the abrasive messages they put in those ads. I don't appreciate having my character/intelligence questioned just because I want more for my money than I can get at Amazon. I actually did drift away for a while because of it, but I ended up coming back.

I would actually pay a yearly subscription fee, if I could be guaranteed that I wouldn't have to see that splash page every time I click a Newegg link. It isn't making me want to shop at Amazon. It only makes me want to shop elsewhere out of spite. I literally flip off my monitor and curse every time I see it, LOL. I try to avoid clicking on links at all, actually, because the redirect thing slows them down. Whole thing is just annoying.

I don't mind shopping at Amazon when I'm in the mood to shop there, but I don't like being pushed around or told what to do.

sooooo, you think a site of this quality runs on unicorn piss and skittles?

NewEgg slapped the [H] user base in the face, fuck them

Or.....I think it runs on reasonable ad revenue (hundreds of thousands a year) and free hardware here and there but I couldn't imagine someone bringing up unicorns would understand.

No, Newegg slapped [H] with a reality check, not the users. Get your ass kissing facts straight.

To be completely honest here, I bet one of the reasons why Amazon's prices are so high is because they waste obscene amounts of money on advertising and affiliates like this site, rather than passing any savings on to the customer. Even brick and mortar stores with more overhead sell things cheaper half the time, let alone other online sites.

I'm not interested in lining this site's pockets, at least not with the kind of attitude I see in those ads. If they were halfway apologetic or willing to beg, entice, or entreat like a NORMAL marketing firm, I might be more willing to shop at Amazon. I look at tons of professional ads on professional sites every day, and I don't care. I appreciate the offer, I consider their plea to have me shop there, and I often do so.

But I have no intention of bowing down to some entitled, snarky, unprofessional bully who dares to insult me and then essentially ask me for a handout. I wouldn't give money to a beggar who spit on me and falsely called me a thief while demanding my money. I might give money to a beggar who says "please."

Also, when I DO bother shop at Amazon... I type "amazon.com" into a separate tab on browser manually. The people who are responsible for this "campaign" need to think HARD about how they relate to their users and try to promote things, because they are probably the worst communicators/salesmen I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. Amazon's reputation is tarnished by association with you guys, if anything. I actually purchased more stuff from them when I wasn't coming here, and these ads actually hurt my opinion of Amazon for letting this go on in their name.

I read the newegg guys bit about how we were "existing customers" and I felt taken for granted. You feel how you like about it. The egg has not made another dime off this existing customer.

As far as ass kissing goes, I'm wondering who is paying you guys to embark on this anti hover hound campaign. I guess it must be working.

I don't appreciate these accusations. This is more insulting than the ads themselves, because I know for sure it's directed at me.

I'm not being paid, but the convenient thing about that accusation is that I have no way of proving my innocence.

Besides, it's not the ads themselves that bother me. Why couldn't they just say something like, "Paid product placement," or "Wait! Check out this great deal!" Something standard that doesn't make me feel like I'm being talked down to.

And yet you were an "existing customer"...lol. Logic, business, yes, it matters. The fact of the matter is majority of us didn't need this site to shop at Newegg....and they knew it. Kyle just got butthurt about it and started a anti-newegg campaign (for the $$$) which meant getting idiots to pay more for the same exact thing anywhere but Newegg. All in the name of a website I personally have no loyalty to, nope! On top of that even if I did the way things are gone about here would make me change my mind.

Yes, it's a conspiracy when regular people tell it like it is without all the ass kissing for a site that doesn't give two shits about you (the user) in the long run. I have my facts straight and you should too. At this point, that comment you just made makes me think you're a part of the worlds problem and definitely not any solution. To put it nicely.

It is doing NOTHING. It is simply an add and makes an ASSUMPTION that if you visit here, you shop at Newegg.

You clearly have no fucking clue about what you are talking about.

That is in no way shape or form the "fact of the matter".

If this is all so horrible to you, you could always simply not use our forums. Has that solution ever dawned on you? You do not contribute that much here as a member, so obviously what we are offering you for free has value. I am sorry that our ads have offended your sensibilities. That was not intended. We however are a business. And yes, you can complain about what we give you for free, but honestly we have solutions for you to fix all that, but it seems you would rather gripe.

Why should I leave a website just because you don't like what I said?

I take no issue with anything you have said. I fully and completely understand that you do not like some of the things happening here as it pertains to advertising and respect that. In turn, if you have such issue with how we run the HardForum, then do not use it. That is what I am saying.

You have posted in this thread in a very abusive manner, cursing and making assumptions and making all these statements about myself personally and about how we do business. What kind of response do you expect?

And I shouldn't have to install a browser extension just to use your website without full page pop-up ads every time I log in. That's all I'm getting to, I guess.

Okie dokie.
