I have a board that's dedicated to testing parts and the CPU i currently have on the board is a little Celeron D 2.66GHZ. This thing runs so hot that starting from cold, the system will automatically shutdown in less than 2 minutes, and the entire board gets burning hot. Is there something intel makes that runs much less than an oven and more like a processor? I don't have a beefy heatsink but it's decent size with a 12mm fan on top. Performance is not important here, as it's for testing only and I just want the system to run more than 2 mins :rolleyes:. thanks all
 
The Celeron D 2.66GHz is rated at 73W-84W, depending on the stepping. The Cedar Mill (65nm) versions run cooler than the TDP. If you have a shut down problem it's more likely the heatsink isn't making good contact. And if you say the whole board is hot, that sounds like more of a problem with poor ventillation (is it a SFF case?).
 
It's a motherboard lying on a flat surface, it's not mounted in a case. Airflow should be very good, I have 2 12cm fans blowing air around and a 12cm fan blowing right on the CPU heatsink.

I used the very same open-table setup to test a E6750 CPU, and it ran all day just fine. And yet the celeron doesn't go pass 2 minutes!
