Screw the Ipad and all dumb hip technology, retro computing is all I care about.

A bit expensive @ $499 for the barebones kit, but it's a fully fledged Socket 775 system. When it comes time to retire my Q6600, I wouldn't mind dropping it into this with an SSD if the prices go down a bit. It would totally be a great DOS or emulator machine. I'm only disappointed in the cheesy 2005 style Taiwanese design and finish. It doesn't look nearly 80s enough. Maybe a big Commodore logo plastered all over it would help. I wish it looked like a Sinclair QL.

Ehhh,, I don't really see the point in this. Why S775 anyway? Why not just use something like a dual-core atom and the ION chipset. Also I hate that this thing has an x3100,,, I expected better.

The Commodore company that exists today is just a tiny backwater company that just has name rights I believe. I'm guessing this is just an off the shelf keyboard computer they sourced from a Taiwanese design and they stick the Commodore label onto.

The website shows pictures of a card swipe addon so I'm guessing part of the original design was for retail sector or maybe thieves stealing credit cards :p

Don't know if the part of retro computing is also design of this website but it is definitely not operated by any computer manufacturer.

In what way is that a C64? Just because some company owns rights to the name does not mean anything they slap it onto becomes a retro or re-newed C64.
At one time, back in 1984, the C64 was selling like hot cakes. In fact, there was a store near me that only sold Commodores and accessories for it. In time, it became a general electronics store when the market burst.

If it were a Color Computer I'd be all in!:p That was one of the original computer culture wars, The Radio Shack Color Computer vs. The Commodore 64. It's very much was like the current PC vs Mac War of today.

Brings back memories!

BTW, this isn't a bad form factor actually.

There's nothing 'Commodore' about this new computer. Now if they had used it for a revolutionary new series of ARM Cortex-A9-based desktop systems I could maybe have seen the point of it. This is just abusing an already abused name to sell more cheap x86 PCs.

I dig the formfactor, though.

I guess you must have owned a C64 to appreciate this. Looks like total crap and pointless.

i used to have a commodore 64... i remember playing a sick ass helicopter game on it

I have owned a C64 (and played on an MSX and others) and I think this is just a sad grab for money :(

If you really want that retro look, get a real c64 and mod it with some modern hardware. Heck, there certainly is the space for it.

Looks like the DocLorren at mini-itx.com had the same idea in 2003 => http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/c64/

Then you run an emulator on it... I wonder if you could get cartridges to work.

It would be nice to have more modern pc's with this form factor, It is unfortunate that the form factor seems to be the only truly "Retro" or "Old School" thing about this computer. It is sad just another cash grab though nostalgia... sad but not surprising.

^^This.

Reminds me of the GTO. They just took some Australian family sedan that they had been selling for years and re-branded it the new Pontiac GTO for the US market. Just because you slap the emblem on the side doesn't make it so.

Anyway, I was hoping that this post was an April Fools Joke when I first read it, but I guess not. It's just a bland PC in a Keyboard with 2004 Gateway styling. It's sullying the Commodore 64 name.

Come up with something that has a retro flare, or something that is truly revolutionary, then we'll talk about putting the Commodore 64 name on it.

Looks like a low-end laptop without a screen, and a high price tag.

You could DIY with much better components, and have standard parts (ITX).

I suppose it's nice if you want something the size of a "thick keyboard", but the Pheonix and Amigo are for a niche market.

Not interested 'cause of the lack of expandability due to the form factor.

this looks more like an updated amiga 1200 than a c=64/128.. pretty cool in an old school/new school sorta way
