just one that supports a full ATX mobo, hard drive, and maybe an optical drive. i'd make it, but i'm lazy, so i just want to dumpster dive or find one.

suggestions?

If you dont already have enough legos to do it, that could get costly.. or, back when I used to play with'em it would have cost a lot.. You can get a case for I think $60 or less cnd...

Just found this case
Cheap enough?

go on newegg and search for cases under the price of (insert your highest price), doubt many will come up, but its worth a shot

Talk to your local computer store. I just got two full size ATX cases w/ 350w PSUs for FREE. Just ask if they have any out back that they were gonna pitch.

Always worth a try

i dont need a power supply, at most, i need a piece of metal to hold the motherboard, fans, power supply and hard drive in place. i can come up with all the switches and stuff on my own.

hmm...
i saw one at frys for 30 bucks.. w/ power supply. should i just get that and ebay the ps?

Check your local paper for computer shows. I was able to get a case for 18$ and modded some fans, cut open the pre stamped fan grills and it turned out to be a great cooling case.

I ended up selling it for 10$ but it was fun modding it, taught me alot.

What do you need a case for? Just attach all the parts to eachother on your desk. Start the computer with a screwdriver across the PWR jumper.

so i dont have a chance of damaging it.

hmm.. i just had an idea. i think i'll make it out of lexan, and drill and mount it upside down on the underside of my desk extension. :)

I have a computer running like the above linked webserver. Runs fine. In fact, mine is almost identical, except mine is running an AthlonXP 1900+ instead of a PII. :p

but let's face it. this is NOT a permanant solution.

http://uploads.thawall.net/pics/comp/dual3.jpg

and i do have a space for it mounted upside-down underneath the top of my desk extension. it's just gonna take some doing getting it there. and i'm also gonna need a agp riser slot card.

Unfortunatly, I'm fresh out of cases, and I'm also fresh out of space. Once I get enough money for a Xeon setup, I'm going to impliment a 'no case, no running' rule, but until then I have to work with what I have. :p

cheapest case? cardboard box. FREE.

Here is a do it yourself cardboard case that not only looks good, but is fairly sturdy as well.......best of all, if you can get some cardboard boxes from large appliances like a stove or refridgerator, you can make this for free.

THat's nuts. I might have to do that, now... I would do something simpler, though. ;) Stacking that much cardboard and gluing it would be too much work... Because I'm probably going to be making 4 or 5 cases like that soon. :D

actually.. if people are interested... newegg's selling the black and silver dynapower metis case for 30 w/ free shipping. i got it when it was 23 + 15 shipping like 8 months ago. it's a good deal.

anyway, i decided to go with an acrylic and wood case i make myself. i already have both the acrylic and wood, so that's fine.

Post some pics when you begin........show us a worklog if you don't mind.

will do.

i'm gonna go over to my old high school and ask the shop teacher if i can use his shop. i'd prefer to use his cause i know it better, but if necessary, i have all the tools in my house.

used a rubbermaid tote from Wallyworld. Cost about three dollars. Sturdier than a cardboard box, not too difficult to cut. Looks crappy, but it's just for his parents to web browse on.:p

I've considered getting a rubbermaid storage dealie. It has slide out drawrs. Just pop a mobo on each drawer, rig up some cooling, and voila. ;) That's for a setup with multiple mobos in a small space, though.
