I have finally decided I am not ready for an LCD screen anytime soon, I have read the reviews and checked many different models out at the local shops...they are simply not up to the task )-:

I have been looking at the following two monitors but I am open to suggestion on other models:

http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/FlatCDT/Monitor_FlatCDT_1100DF.htm

$475.00

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/crt_g220fb.htm

$472.00

Not willing to spend more then $500.00 shipped.

PRIMARY USES IN ORDER:

0.) Surfing and Emailing
1.) Image Editing (Photography)
2.) Video Editing (Home Movies)
3.) Gaming (FPS) Still very much a high priority...

I don't generally recommend Samsung.

Viewsonic, Sony or NEC/Mitsubishi are my recommendations in this price range.

When you said best I was going to recommend Barco, but then you put a budget cap on. So I didn't.

The Viewsonic would be my recommendation. I have an older, cheaper Viewsonic and it performs pretty well. The color rendering is deep, luscious and saturated. It's even better looking than my more expensive 21" Mitsu 2040.

I am suprised by the responses I thought for sure everyone would recommend the Samsung. The dot pitch is 20??? You guys actually compare these two?

If you look at it, the dot pitch is .20 horizontal dot pitch. The Viewsonic has a .21 horizontal; they are not actual dot pitch.

The lowest dot pitch I've seen is on the Sony F520, which has a .22 mm dot pitch.

The Viewsonics look a lot better to me.

OUCH! Those prices are high...monitors look sweet though...great specs! I am starting to baulk...looking to just pick up two affordable 19's instead...still want nice specs though |-:

Mitsubishis use Diamondtron tubes, not Trinitron. I like the Diamondtrons over most of the Trinitron based monitors though.
