The BEST 19" CRT

Please recommend the best 19" CRT with preference to Sharpness and Color. I'd like to buy one for my gaming machine. My main screen is a 23" Apple and this second monitor would be hooked up to the DVI port through a DVI-VGA adapter if that makes any difference. The CRT should also be smaller and have a good response time.

i've heard many great things about the Mitsubishi 930sb. while it's sharpness may not be that of a shadow mask, it's the prime choice for a lot of the CRT owners in this forum. It's a disconntinued model but can be had as a refurb item here

The Mitsubishi DP930SB is the best 19" CRT i've seen, especially for gaming. It has excellent refresh rates such as 1600x1200 @ 88Hz.

I can make My 930sb as sharp as LCD text. It just depends on your focusing skills

I've also got the overseas version of the 930, called the 93sb. Its beautiful and as good as if not better than my old Trinitron. You might want a Sony Artisian for $1,700 if you want the absolute best. I've gotten some very successful work done on my AG CRT's that translates beautiful to actual material and I have to say the color accuracy is pretty damn good comparing the printed material to the screen.

What of the Lacie electron 19blue IV? I think that would be very good

[edit] Nevermind, that 930 is better, hee hee..

Viewsonic P95f+ works really well too. I look for monitors with the good trinitron tubes (high refresh rates), since I don't mind the two wires going across the screen. This one and an older 19" KDS trinitron I had, still beats the pants off of the best LCD's I've seen. The 8600 I have in my sig, the colors just don't look right out of the box and I had to adjust the values to get decent color, but brightness is still not up to par with even cheap crt's I've used.

edit: I also wanted to add that faster refresh rate at a given resolution is better, but some monitors seem to cheat a little on that. I used to run my the old KDS trinitron at 1280x1024@100Hz to get rid of the flickering. On my new Viewsonic P95f+ I can do it at 85Hz and no flickering.

Viewsonic P95f+ no that is the worst of all monitors

It is appature grille in the middle and shadow mask on the surrounding outside areas of the screen/ Everything is not even and it becouse blurry.

Just get a refurb 930sb from nm-select

Interesting, any links to this quasi aperature grill/shadow mask? Mine has been perfect for me and I had compared it to a Sony 19" G series one which was twice as much.

Viewsonic uses Mitsubishi tubes... they've just sucked at it recently. My ancient PF790 is far sharper than my P95f+.

Pretty good price and specs on that refurbished Mitsubishi. Throw in their warranty for just a little more and I'd call that a steal.
If I didn't just buy a new monitor I'd jump all over that.

I dont think they do. I know other compabies do Like corner stone, Lacie and a few others but ive never heard Viewsonic

The NEC MultiSync 97F ClearFlat is good IMO.....

OMG, wait a minute... Does that 97 in 97F mean it was designed in 1997.  That's nearly impossible.. This thing looks like it was created at least after 2000.... I love it.

lmfao.... well okay then..

according to all the reviews I've read just 5 minutes ago, it seems that most 97F's are dieing after a year or two of use....

I've had this monitor for a little over a year, and expect it to explode at any moment... But when it does, I want a replacement!

Here's a pic of the black one [I have nicer white one]:

My P225f was a piece of garbage too. I went through two before I took it back and demanded a refund. The thing was not remotely as sharp, uniform, or as accurate as my six year old Envision A995, which has a genuine Sony tube and cost not even half as much.

I have have the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930sb and its f'n fantastic. I was in desperate need of it too. I went from that abombination the View Sonic P95f+ to this. Yea , that flaming piece of shit was so blurry it made my eyes water. It was blurry in the middle as you said and clear on the outside edges. It almost looked like there was more antiglare coat caked all over the middle of the monitor, it's gotta be the most incredibly blurry piece of shit monitor i've ever owned.. that p95f+. The colors did look great though ;\ heh.

I guess I lucked out, since mine seems to be fine. Like I said, it was the replacement for a KDS 195TF or something (19" trinitron). That KDS on the other hand, flickered at 85Hz and had some dimming in the corners. However, I did buy mine on a showroom floor and I had compared it to the Sony 19" G series or the like and it was no different. Spent forever adjusting the monitor values to match each other, but you only do it once anyways, so I wasn't as miffed about the bad setup menu. I thought the Viewsonic had a trinitron tube since at the time I was shopping, the ones with high resolution and high refresh rates were the monitors with more expensive trinitron tubes. The diamondtron's and invar shadow mask ones peaked at 1600x1200@60Hz. The salesman looked me kind of funny too when I said I wanted that one from the showroom floor and not an untouched box.

No wonder....sorry but you are stupid to think diamontron is capped at 60Hz at 1600x1200, mine does 1600x1200@100Hz if needed. Dont you know that it depends on the GFX card and its settings too what resolutio/Hz can be used?
