The AMD Driver Bug Thread

An exception is thrown when an wglCreateContext is called when OPENGL32.DLL is dynamically loaded (using dynamic DLL linking). AIDA64 corrected this issue in latest beta using static linking of OPENGL32.DLL. Probably we should send this thread to AMD, because the reference in OP doesn't clarify the situation at all.

I discovered that this bug is caused by atioglxx.dll related to 11.8/11.9 driver versions. A workaround is to place atioglxx.dll from Catalyst 11.7 into the same folder of the program with an opengl issue (caused by 11.8 or 11.9 drivers).
So this bug is part of "OpenGL Extension Limit" issues indicated in the OP. AMD should definitively fix their OpenGL implementation.

Anyone seen this? This odd crash has happened to me twice. I'll be at my desktop when suddenly my entire screen goes completely gray. Only a hard reset brings it back. Not playing games or anything, just at Windows desktop or surfing the web.

MSI 870A-G54 mobo

Can you provide more info (i.e. your Catalyst driver / Windows version / your browser name / hardware acceleration enabled or not / a screen with your temps / potential errors in event log)?

Has happened both with Cat 11.8 and 11.9. Windows 7 x64. Chrome. Hardware Acceleration enabled.

No errors in the event log and GPU temperature idles at 45C. The last crash happened when I had nothing open but Disk Management. Previous crash happened with Chrome and Thunderbird open. No embedded Flash was running at the time.

Ok, I was playing the BF3 BETA and in the metro map at the first round I was like getting 70-80FPPS at max settings and the second round I was getting only half the FPS, is this a bug with the drivers or what?

I'm using my AMD rig which is:

AMD Phenom II 955 3.2Ghz
Gigabyte ATI Radeon 6950 1GB
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM

And I'm using the latest 11.9 drivers

This would be the first I have seen someone mention this, does not sound like a driver bug.

Your gonna get inconsistent performance with that driver. You want to install the 11.10 hotfix driver on top of 11.9 to play battlefield 3 beta.

Fresh install of windows 7 home premium 64b, upgraded to professional through upgrade anytime. (New hard drive).

I installed the ati graphics drivers (11.9) only, rebooted, installed the profiles, rebooted, and now I am seeing a constant stream in ACEEventLog. Awesome. Not fixed. Never noticed it before, but I also wasn't looking. I'll try to re-install my drivers and let you know.

EDIT2: Uninstalled 11.9 and switched to 11.10 Preview 3, errors persist. Not impressed.

2. HD 5000 series UVD Mode Behavior

I experienced this issue on my HD 5750, the clocks run at 400/900 while default is 700/1150

I fixed it by simply disable hardware acceleration setting in Adobe Flash Player

The problem now gone

Hope this helps you

Good luck

@Unknown-One: It seems you've lost interest in this thread. No more feedback from AMD?
Yeah, my communications with them died off pretty rapidly after they sent me that HD 6970 (which had yet another faulty fan, which I replaced on my own dime).

I suppose I could get this thread back up to speed and try getting back in touch with them again... I'm just not sure how responsive they'll be, considering they now have a new series of cards out and are presumably scampering around trying to get HD 7000 series drivers working correctly.

Yup, I can confirm that bug is back. I totally agree, I'm less and less impressed with AMD's video drivers every day.

This is a work-around, not a fix. All you've done is is prevented Flash Player from triggering the unwanted behavior (but in doing so, you moved Flash Player's load from the GPU to the CPU, hardly ideal).

I still believe AMD should recall every single card in the HD 5800 series because of the above problem. According to them, the issues with UVD on those cards are a hardware problem, and it seriously impairs a primary function of the graphics card (a function that's advertized on the product box).

I also can't shake the feeling that the only reason they sent me a HD 6900 series card was to get me to quiet down and go away... I know that's entirely conjecture on my part...but still...

Can you give specifics? Links and the exact behavior experienced would help.

UVD appears to function normally on every 6950 and 6970 I've seen, so I'm assuming it's a lower-end card that's having the issue? If I remember correctly, some low end "HD 6000" series cards are just re-badged HD 5000 series cards, which would explain a recurrence in UVD problems.

I think you may add this bug into the OP:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792639

I can reproduce it with every catalyst release, and a lot of users confirmed it in their 6xxx and 7xxx cards too.

I reported it at least three times using their contact forms (12.8, 12.10, 12.11).

Every AMD card seems to be involved.
