am considering a 6800nu. which one would you guys recommend? would the cheapest at newegg be ok?

which have ddr3? how much more expensive is it?

i would be running it with an axp-m @ 2.52ghz, 1GB of ram at 220mhz with cas 2.5.

anybody have a similar rig? what kind of performance numbers do you get in doom3?

I got leadtek winfast, got a huge copper heatsink, a bit too heavy though. Ppl seems to like bfg cos they have lifetime warranty.

I mayby wrong but, I dont think nu has ddr3, all come wif older ddr.

With my system (see my sig), at 1600x1200 i got around 60fps on timedemo1.
 
The only brand 6800NU I dont recomend is the PNY. After the Black Friday episode with ll the broken resistors I am leary of the company. Cant say I have heard anything particularly bad about any other company.
 
dont know bout them being the cheapest, but ive had good experiance with both brands,

I would recommend the BFG 6800 OC. Overclocked, lifetime warranty and 24/7 tech support. They also have great support.
 
ppl wanna charge $300 for the BFG card... i really do not think the card is worth that much. unless somebody knows of some type of deal..

if there isnt really anything wrong with the cheap ones i may go ahead with that and purchase some aftermarket cooling along with it.

Cost 292 on Newegg, BUT I can't find it anymore :( They just have the 256MB 320 dollar one now (which makes me just wonder why someone wouldn't get a GT)
The package was incredible, so much stuff.

Cooling -- Stock -- Great.

I suppose I have a similar Rig. AMD 64 3200, 1GB Ram.
Never did a TimeDemo Test, but during the game, running on 1280X1024 I never saw less than 50 (Lie, it did jump to 40 sometimes, but for like a split second). 1600X1200 I think it started to suffer with everything On/High.
 
yeah, i havent seen an MSI in my price range...

im looking at the XFX, seems there have been plenty of ppl to buy it and give a positive review on the egg...

i was also wondering how hot the ram gets on the cards? is the zalman dual heatpipe worth it?

I'm sure there are thread here about unlocking 6800 with oc numbers.
Mine maxed out at 380/860. I've seen other able to reach 400/900 or more.
 
get an eVGA, I've gone up to so far 440/830 on stock cooling and it's unlocked. I don't want to go any higher until my NV Silencer 5 arrives, then I'll see how far she goes

I love my eVGA...see sig for my unlock/overclock.
 
I am also interested in buying a 6800nu, seem to be the best "bang for your buck" @1280x1024 (my LCD's native), anyways how do you determine which ones will let you open the pipelines? Do certain brands have better chances than others? I really want to get one that'll let me open the pipes.

luck of the draw for the most part.
 
i think PNY fixed that whole resistor problem. Plus they do have 2 year warranty so even if something goes wrong they will fix it. I just don't see how having lifetime warranty is much better when u probably wont have your vid card for over 2 years.

i had a gainward gf3 way back when... why are they not selling the 6800's over here?

what makes BFG the best? i dont really wanna hear about their warranty. ;)
 
I have a 6800nu from eVGA and I hate it. It's been overclocking less and less since I got it and only a vertex shader was able to be unlocked. Plus, the screws in the heatsink where screwed in so tight that I couldnt take them out. They just stripped and stripped away. I'll never buy another eVGA because of the screws. Still, for $275, it kicks my old GF3's ass :)

They were selling them here I snagged one along with a GLH but they had some sort of issues...their distrubtor changed, new parent company....and so their stuff isn't available right now. They have said they will be shipping here again though. Here is for hoping.

it doesnt really bother me that they dont sell here.... i think their golden sample stuff is a con anyway. i know my gf3 wasnt any better than any other, and the same on up.
 
Some like BFG because they OC the card out of the box (some are too afraid to do it themselves) which of course is what you are paying for. They have 24/7 tech support which is always a plus and personally I have had noting but wonderful experience with. They make some of the better stock collers for their cards as well. Of course the lifetime warranty (which looks good on paper, but really isn't that great for a vid card - I mean if you are a gamer you will upgrade in a year or two at the least). What is nice about the warranty is that it follows the card as well.

hmm... well, i certainly do not need help with OC'ing... the tech support i would never use. the warranty, i know for sure i wont have the card in my personal possession for 2 years. hmm.. if the card were closer to $260, i would certainly go for it. i just cant justify spending another $40 or so for things i wont ever use or actually need. i can weed out BFG. :D

i am kinda leaning twords the $250 evga from zzf...
 
i think bfg nu's come with 2.2ns ram... i had two of them once and both had 2.2ns ram. but they don't clock up to 900mhz tho =\... thru coolbits they detected at best to do 800mhz. but i was able to run 3dmark03 with no artifacting at 875mhz...
 
the PNYS have hit 1000 pretty well.. well many of them.. and they seem to have a better record at unlocking pipes. mine did also. i didnt oc it all the way cuz im using stock cooler plus i like mine super stable... and have the same fast memory bandwidth
 
ive been very happy with xpertvision 6800nu.. runs 410/930+ with stock coolin, 16, 6 pipes 100%. gives me over 5k+ in 3dmark05 with xp2500+ (o/ced of course)
ill most likely change it to 6800gt this week and im hopin the gt will be noticably faster than nu..
