weird configuration, more memory than the 768mb version, bigger memory interface but less shaders.

I wonder how will it perform

Except I think the memory is worse quality? Isn't the normal gtx 328bit (or something like that)?

No the GTX 460 1gb is 256bit same as the SE. I think nvidia will replace the 768 model so that it sits better near the 5770, the GTs 450 will go down a price class to battle the 5750 and below.

I expect performance to be better than GTX 460 768 at stock speeds but slower than the 1gb at stock speeds. My only concern about the 460 se is that since it's also 1gb it will confuse buyers not understanding what the difference is between SE and 460 1gb. I think nvidia doesn't plan to have the GTX 460 1gb in the market for much longer. I'd say the 1gb model will be phased out come early January in time for the GF114 GTX 560s

No, the GTX 460 comes in 768/192 and 1024/256 (MEM/BUS). This is a strange configuration, but not outside the boundaries of what the chip can do.

I'm just surprised at the 256-bit bus on a less powerful part. But I'm guessing they're using this part to phase-out the 768MB GTX 460 card, so it's less confusing for the consumer. They already have to decide between 768MB and 1GB from the competition, so I'm sure it's a tough sell, even though the price/performance ratio is great.

I am interested to see how this card does in benches. Could be the new value leader in midrange that can't be cast out due to memory size.

Also, i thought the GTS450 was always supposed to be the 5750 competitor, at least according to NVIDIA. No?

Yes, it was supposed to, however it fell short, it performs around a 5750 actually. It even loses benchmarks here and there against that card. The GF108 GPU doesn't seem as capable as the GF104.

The GTX 460 768 is the current king between $100-$160. The problem with that card is that the people who buy cards like that are usually LESS savvy. They'll look at a AMD 5750 and 5770 and say to themselves, Hmm these both offer 1GB of memory so they must be better. Clearly not the case as the 460 768 is a better card than either of those. What I believe nvidia wanted to do was have a lower cost, better power efficient GTX 460 that could be priced to compete with the 5770 until AMD decides to EOL it. The GTs450 is being moved down a price scale to $99 or less to compete with AMD's 5600 offering where it'll easily remain king until those GPU's are replaced.

NVIDIA® Fermi architecture – DirectX® 11 done right

Done right, yeah right, done wrong most likely with most of their DX11 cards using too much power and heat.

Anyway, I find this new GTX 460 SE pointless, a slower card? NVIDIA kinda fucked up the naming scheme here, could have called this card the GTS 455 or whatever. There are already two GTX 460's and they had to bring another one which happens to be slower. WTF NVIDIA

There is a 455 coming but it's not this card. The GTX 460 768 is more than likely getting EOL'd after they sell out of their stock. The 460 1gb will be phased on Q1 when the GTX 560 gpu's launch.

BTW John, why are you always so over the top negative in every nvidia thread?

If they offer the 460 SE in single slot, I'm buying it for dedicated PhysX.
The GTS 450 was disappointing and for some reason was still a double slot card.
