That RAGE game.

anyone play through a few levels with the new patch?...how is performance with a GTX 580 (or equivalent) with Texture Detail enabled?
The patch notes specifically say that Texture Detail is based on CPU "quad-core cpu or higher". The in game benchmark shows almost a 2x improvement to streaming Megatextures if you enable GPU transcode though.

I tested the patch last night and the Texture Detail makes a brown turd look like a green turd, but believe me the game is still looks like a turd. I prefer the way the game looks without the Texture Detail. The game just looks weird with it on.

I'm one of the few people who had a good time with the game the first time around.
I tried out the new patch and now the game looks like the first few seconds of an Unreal Engine game...all of the time. Textures are popping in left and right now.
This was fixed in the original release with some config tweaks, so I guess If I play the game again I'll probably have to hunt those down.

seems like you already made up your mind about the game regardless of how much of an improvement the latest patch is

Your right, I did make up my mind before the patch. That opinion is that I thought it was a fun game for both of the back to back playthroughs that I did of RAGE (first time ever in a game for me). That doesn't mean that the graphics are good. The sharpening doesn't make it look better, it makes it look different.

With the 1.2 patch, did the GPU transcode feature break for anyone else?

I have GTX 480s in SLI on I7 950 running with the 295.51 drivers at stock clocks.

When I try to enable GPU transcode I get an error stating I have insufficient memory or incompatible hardware.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Played around last night with the new patch. at 19x10 with all detail settings in game maxed, it was really putting the hurt on all 8 threads of my 2600k! Vram usage would spike to 1.5gig+ when driving and hitting the "turbo" button. Was really dumping some serious heat into my case. Performance was good, used the "smart" vsync setting, seemed to do ok. There was a small amount of texture pop, compared to the previous patch and me jacking with the cfg files.

Haven't finished it yet?

I liked the game, but the ending was like a slap across the face.

Great texture mod, will disable again... :bleh:
Stupid noise filter is simply ridiculous after the patch.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2518742 > if anyone wants to see what it does to the textures up close, there are a couple pics on post 14, maybe that would express in a better way what someone else said about a slightly differently colored turd (relating to the textures).

What i don't get is why did they run a sharpen shader on the cpu???... meh.

EDIT TO ADD:
Personally it does help, but only at midrange, upclose it can't change unless they actually make a huge texture pack, i still don't think that the engine itself is worth it.

LOL, 20 gigs sucked up on a SSD? Screw that. They are not that cheap yet.

Efficient management of space?? I just copy a game onto my 60GB SSD that was a mere $60.00 during a sale a year and a half ago. Keep 2-3 games on the SSD at a time. When I decide I want to play a different set of games, control x + control V onto my 2TB hard drive. and control x + control v the new game onto the SSD.

It takes all of 2-3 mintues to copy 20GB with a good performance 2TB HD. Aka not one of the green-economy ones. I usually just use that time to go to the bathroom or walk to my fridge and back. I'm a gamer of the 80s through 90s and remember games like the original Halo on xbox 1 where the loading screen alone took 3-5 minutes on some campaign maps.
