I wanted to thank those of you who patiently answered my questions regarding the selection of an external monitor exclusively for photo image editing.

After pouring over numerous reviews & sorting through the myriad of forum threads, I have narrowed the field to 2 contenders: the NEC EA231WMi & the Dell U2410. Neither of these monitors are perfect & both have their strengths & weaknesses.

And regardless of my final selection, I will get an Eye-One Display 2 colorimeter.

As a final call for input, if anyone has any strong opinions regarding either of the above monitors, please let me know.

Again, thank you for your thoughts & suggestions.

One caters to the people that have about $500 to spend on a monitor, and the other to the people that have about $325 to spend. I think that's why the NEC is a hit around here because it fills the gap between the "crappy TNs" and the $500+ tier of monitor.

The NEC is 1900x1080, which to me is a definite downgrade from 1900x1200. I'd WAY rather have the larger resolution.

The Dell has some panel tint issues that are well-documented and would scare me from buying one.

Personally, I'm waiting to see how the new HP ZR24W turns out:

If that monitor is absurdly expensive, or has poor quality, I will probably go with the 23" NEC.

I'd go either for NEC or wait how that new HP ZR24W turns out.

I wouldn't buy a wide gamut panel. Have used an LCD TV as a monitor with wide gamut before and the colors are ridiculous on websites and other stuff.
