Just figured I'd post a message to let you all know how much I appreciate you all... Being a lurker mostly, I just OC'd my first box and I am AMAZED with the results. After meticulously picking through the forums, selecting my hardware and patiently tweaking, testing and rebooting, my new box is 'smokin! (not literally :p, but in a good way) This is a huge step from my first 286 back in '91 or so.

Here's my specs:

Opty 165 CCB1E 0609FPBW
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
ZALMAN CNPS9500
XFX GeForce 7900 GT
OCZ Gold Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 500

And my results:

FSB: 301 MHz
Mem Bus: 246 MHz
HTT x3
CPU x9 = 2.7 GHz
VCore 1.36v
Timings: 3 3 3 5 @ 2T
Temps: 44C idle to 52C dual primed

I'm going to try some AS on the heatsink after I get done playing to try to drop the temps a lil bit, but I think I should be ok for now. (I wasn't that good with the stock thermal jism from zalman) The CRAZY thing is I think I could still push this chip, but I'm a lil more conservative than u nutballs.

I'm VERY happy with my settings, and I have the preformance of a freaking FX-60 at 1/3rd of the price! So again, thank you to everyone that takes the time to post, and keep in mind that you help ALOT more people than you prolly get feedback from. Mad props to Eclipse for his OC guide..

Anybody see anything I could tweak out better?

And for the n00bs scared to try. FREAKING DO IT! It's a BLAST and very rewarding if you're careful!
 
Very nice OC...Overclocking is like a little puzzle, so when you get it really high and stable its very gratifying...congrats.

Why cant you get your memory to run 1T?
 
amazing oc there on an asus board! congrats :D

i remember my first oc...i was so happy :D nice temps there too, and like the above poster mentioned change your ram settings to 1t
 
Oh, and instead of 3-3-3-5, try to run 3-3-3-8 or 3-3-3-10. Its faster on AMD chips for some reason.

At least its faster on mine.

probably because of the mobo.

i also find that while varying tras of higher numbers can give better performance, setting it to 0 helps clocks the most :confused:

I didnt know you could set it to 0...i thought it started at 5!

You say we're a bunch of nutballs? Why, I RESemble that remark!!

Well said in the ending, gotta just get over the inhibitions of trying to tweak stuff, it is safe if you're careful and indeed very rewarding :D!
