TH7ii-RAID - help installing XP

I am building a computer for my sister and her family, and am using my old Abit TH7ii RAID board and a P4 2.4 ghz proc. I installed XP Home (upgrade) on a one month old WD 120 gb drive. When the system restarts it starts to load xp, then it immediately resets and gives me the menu for loading normally or going into safe mode. I can go into safe mode no problem.

Any ideas? What other info do you need to help me? Thank you very much in advance.

I had a similar problem on my PC with a Chaintech 9EJS1-Zenith MB. From Safe mode, check the Event Viewer and see if there is any problems loading specific drivers. I had a conflict with my Sound and RAID drivers
 
maybe its just the problem with the upgrade OS. The best way to install a OS is just to do a full install, what version of Windows did you have before? I would suggest doing a clean install of that Windows and then try upgrading again.

Ahh TH7II, excellent choice. Around the time of rambus 478's that was the best board to have. I was deciding between that and a Intel board for the longest time. There are people with mad overclocks on that board.
 
I just realized I posted this in Intel Processors, and it should have gone into Motherboards....sorry! :(

Anyway, the old O/S was Win 98SE, and I did format the drive to get rid of it, instead just putting the cd in the drive when asked. So far only the C partition is formatted to NTSF, the D and E partition are still FAT32. There is nothing on those partitions though. Could that be a problem?

I will check the event log to see what is going on there. Could it be the RAID driver? I haven't installed that yet, but am not using RAID, just one IDE hard drive and one DVD ROM and one CDRW drive on the other channel.

Also, I can't remember all the correct settings to the TH7....it was a great board, and I enjoyed using it. It seemed I did get a decent overclock out of it, then I switched over to the IC7. Does anyone have a good link to a thread with settings? I tried doing a search, and came up with nothing....What should the RDRAM setting be? I am using the 533 mhz system bus 2.4ghz chip.

That could be the issue right there. To run your proc @ 2.4Ghz/533 you need your FSB @ 133Mhz. TH7-II is a 400Mhz FSB board. Even though the BIOS allows you to set the FSB to 133Mhz. From the reviews I read about the board, it doesn't clock that high without some serious mods such as replacing ICs on the board. Try running the processor at a lower FSB. Start at 100 and work up until you find the most stable settings.
 
You know, I thought the numbers on the boot up screen didn't look right. So I throttled it back to 100 mhz, and that didn't do anything. The weird thing was it would work fine in Safe Mode at 133.

Anyway, I finally found the Highpoint drivers (that was the one thing that I found in Device Manager as not having a proper driver). That didn't fix it either. Then I ran the INTEL INF update and INtel Application Accelerator off the TH7ii disk, and voila, she booted into XP. I was getting worried that something was seriously screwed up somewhere.

I am trying now to get it tweaked before I deliver it to my sister. I may need to post this in another forum, but why can't I just run my network cable from my cable modem to the network card on this new computer to get on the internet? I am using Comcast. It can't find the network.

Also, I could swear I was running a 2.4 ghz proc at 2.4 ghz in the TH7ii and had no problems with the FSB before I got my current setup.....
