TFT and ClearType?

Hi!

Do some of you use ClearType on your TFT monitor? I ask because I can't see the benefit with cleartype. Large fonts look ok but small fonts just gets blurred. I use the normal smoothing method and I think that it looks better. Is there something wrong with me? ;)

Are you using DVI or the VGA connection ? Very small fonts usually do not benefit greatly from ClearType or other font smoothing algorithms.

Try the Microsoft ClearType tuner to check how the fonts look with different hinting. Sometimes on some monitors the default hinting isnt good enough.

An intelligent OS will turn off ClearType-like hinting for fonts smaller than a certain size. You can actually use the Magnifier applet in Windows ( available from the accesibilty menu ) to check this
 
I'm using DVI. With standard smoothing small fonts are not smoothened and I like that. I did not know that there is a ClearType tuner. I will try that tuner if I find it.
 
I tried the tuner but it did not help. I think I'll stick to standard smoothing. My eyes cannot focus cleartype fonts. The font always looks a bit fuzzy.
