Texture flickering with GTX 260

I am using the regular, single GTX 260 and getting texture flickering in every game I play. The flickering is not massive but when I play games like Fallout 3, little problems become big annoyances since the flickering is spread out.

I am using Vista 64-bit, updated all the drivers, and checked the temps (the GPU is under 50C when I am playing a graphics intensive game).

Could it be my PSU? I have a 550W seasonic S12, but someone on the Nvidia forums said my PSU doesn't have enough Amperage on the +12V rails.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I've had that problem with a previous 4870 1GB before. The textures would flicker but the game doesn't actually crash. As soon as I replaced the card the problem went away. So I'm not sure if it's something that you can fix thru software.

I ran a GTX 260 on an Antec 480W before too (C2D 6750, Abit IP35-E, the works), so I'm guessing it's not your power supply.

I am experiencing this problem with my 4850X2. I put in an RMA as no driver seems to fix the problem.

This is a well known problem. Neither Nvidia or Beth want to do anything about it. I was told that using the 180.?? drivers take care of the problem. Im using the 182.?? still have the flickering but its not as bad as with the newest drivers. Which for some reason my system really dislike.

Having the most updated drivers is not always the cure. Nvidia and ATI have a history of fixing things then breaking them again in later releases. I've often found myself rolling back drivers, sometimes 6 months or more, in order to find a driver that does not trigger the bug. I would suggest you download various versions and try them. If your specifically having issues with FO3, try the 181.22 drivers first.

This is also a great example of, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If your system is running good and you don't have any games that are acting buggy, don't bother upgrading drivers. A lot of people are under the misconception that the performance #'s you see as 'increases' in driver releases, are general across the board statistics. If you read the release notes though, you'll usually always see these numbers are from very specific benchmarks, from one particular card or setting. That's why it's vital to read the release notes to see what they addressed and for an explanation of these 8-10% boost they blatantly advertise.

So true Chris. Only problem is I have this "bug" that forces me to fuck with my computer at all times. I'm hoping a new driver release will solve my problem. Lol.

you will probably be hoping for a long time.. you are better off screwing with older drivers to fix the problem then hoping nvidia actually gives a crap and fixes it on their side..

Um. What I said was I was looking for a driver update to fix me....not my card. That ans I have an ATI card.

Using older drivers didn't work for me, unfortunately. My GTX 260 is XFX brand, and I have owned it for a year. Isn't that way past my RMA "due date"?

Do you guys think this is a software or hardware issue?

can you rma or return it? its a hardware issue or sometimes drivers too :)

My 7900gs started doing that after I kept it OCed for a bit.

Now even at stock speeds and under, it will sometimes do it.

Seems like it's no longer tolerant to heat like it used to be.

time to stick it in the oven.

Yeah I've been getting little flickers like that in many games since the day I got my GTX260. My cards runs cool so I doubt it's a heating issue. Probably drivers.

Glade I'm not alone with this problem. I've noticed that problem as well, well not just the standard FO3 itself. I've noticed it since I downloaded the HD resolution packages for FO3.
I'm thinking of updating to the 190.40 beta drivers off guru3d and see if the problem still exists.

NOTE: I'm using a GTS250.

Just received my RMA replacement GTX 260 black from XFX for another issue and noticed lots of texture flickering in Sacred 2, FEAR 2 and Fallout 3. Using 190.38.

Did anyone ever track down what the cause is?

Downloading 190.62 right now to see if they work better. Ugh dialup.

I've regressed back to 182.50 and after trying every new update up to and including 190.62 I can personally say that the 182.50 performs the best. I mostly sim with FSX which can be tough on a GPU and I have no problems. The newer drivers would have some occasional flicker on a building or tree but not with the 182.50.
I also noticed that my pages on the Net are now almost instant instead of hesitating and then paging up.

running: XFX GTX260 Black Edition
