So I have a friend whom texts occasionally but is sporting an old verizon phone. Any suggestions for one that is close to a smartphone but without data fees?
thanks!
Maybe the enV3? I had the Voyager before and loved that, although that does not exist anymore. My friends had the enV touch which is kinda the same just a bit different and that seemed pretty good for texting.
I would get a LG Voyager off eBay or something. When I first saw it I thought it was a full fledged smartphone. Heard a lot of good things about it but I'm not sure about the performance compared to today's "featured phones" as Verizon would call them.
I have an LG enV. Touch VX11000 that is pretty much like new. Used it for 6 months or so until I got my Android handset. It has a full body Zagg InvisiShield skin on it and like I said is in really nice condition. Comes with a 2Gb Micro SD card. Its as close as you get to the smartphones without a $30 data plan. This type of phone requires a $10 data plan now though no matter which model you get. If it can do apps and web it requires the $10 plan.
Its actually got really impressive stereo speakers and one of the best physical keyboards they had at the time plus the touch screen. Of course its a resistive screen like they were back then so its nothing like the Capacitive screens of todays smartphones. What is kinda nice though is you can use any stylet like one from a Nintendo DS on it, doesn't require a finger which sometimes is nice. Its like the newer model after the Voyager.
PM me if interested. The contract on that line matures in like 5 days so it has a Verizon clean ESN, free to activate.
Get a phone on page plus. It uses the verizon network, and is cheap. You can activate some VZW phones on it. They have a package of 1200 minutes, texts, and 50MB data or so for $30. Check the forums on howardforums.com for more info/questions.
