I'm thinking of moving from a 19" crt to a 24" LCD and was wondering if with a 1920x1080 resolution the text size is noticeably smaller, or if it is offset by the size of the panel? Does anyone who has dealt with one have problems/difficulty/dislike with text size on the 24"?
Thanks

Well if you run some numbers you find that the 24" panel AUO panel that the Dell and BenQ use has a horizontal active area of about 20.4 inches. In that space there's 1920 pixels. That gives you a resolution of 94DPI. That's fairly normal for desktop LCDs. For example running the numbers on a 19" LCD 1280x1024 panel, which is rather common, gives you 86DPI. That places this as a little smaller, more along the lines of what you'd get from an 18" 1280x1024 LCD but still in the same ballpark.

With a CRT it's hard to answer since that requires knowing both the resolution you run it at and how much of the screen you have the image configured to display on. However if you can track down an 18" LCD that uses 1280 by 1024 resolution that is going to be real, real close to the size you'll get on a 24" 1920x1200 widescreen.

Also please note Windows is happy to adjust your font size, and Vista is going to bring a more fine grained adjustment of that.

I have currently 17" 1280x1024 LCD. I have Dell 24" 1920x1200 LCD soon and it does have bit larger font size than my current 17". 17" 0.265mm vs 24" 0.27mm dot pitch.

My laptop is a 15 inch 1680x1050 screen, and I love it. A 24" at 1920x1080 wont be bad at all. Even if the text is a bit smaller than what you are used to you will get used to it right away (unless you have really really poor vision). Or like has been already mentioned, you could always adjust the DPI in Windows. Either way, you will love all the extra room.
