text on an LCD phenomenon..?

Okay, i am still with my CRT. Mainly because whenever im on an LCD monitor, to me, all the text looks really crappy and sometimes is VERY hard to read. It looks like it has jagged edges and whatnot. I've only seen smooth text on one lcd and that was a 17" dell at school... what causes this?

Uhm... LSD?

I got rid of my LCD for a 24" CRT. But text is superb at native res on an LCD. Unless you are seeing other places not doing the right res, which is a big no-no.

Have you got cleartype enabled?

If not this is antialiasing for windows text which usually smooths things nicely on an lcd.

Call me a fool, but I do not like cleartype. That makes the text fuzzy to me, as long as the LCD is in the native res, i find the text to be VERY clear and crisp, at least using the DVI port it is. VGA on this Gateway is indeed, not as good for text clarity...in games I can't tell a difference...

If ya got DVI, use it!

I like LCD for the form factor, perfect geometry, and the fact that it doesn't grow dimmer and out of focus with time. In every other aspect, I prefer CRT -- text. image, black levels, color reproduction, price.

This is comparing a good LCD with a good CRT, of course. You can always find some LCD that looks much better than some CRT and vice versa.
