I recently purchased this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051

and I'm quite happy with it, but I'm noticing that a line of text looks different at some locations on the display than others. For example, if I have two lines of green text that are supposed to be the same in appearance, They might look like this:

Hello World
Goodnight World

So they're a little off, but if I were to scroll down once, they flip:

Hello World
Goodnight World

They can also alternate being a little blurry and not. It's not bad, and it's not noticeable in a game or anything, but it's a little distracting.

Is this an issue with some technical specification of the monitor (like the contrast ratio), or might it be a setting I have wrong? I'm running it at the second highest resolution, and it's set at 720p.

i see that on TN panels. I am probably WAY off on that assumption though.

As for the blurriness, I find I get that issue after enabling ClearType. Do an AutoAjustment, and the blurriness should go away.

You know, I haven't found an auto adjustment on the monitor just yet. I was surprised by that. I'm sure it must have one, I'll look again, tonight.

The color shifting is due to the fact that you are using a monitor with a TN panel. This is a known issue for all TN panel monitors.

There are only 3 PVA (non-TN) panels in the 22" category. The least expensive are the Lenovo ThinkVision L220x and the HP LP2209w probably at around $375 - $425. There are a couple of 22" LCD monitors from Eizo, but they are geared towards graphics professionals and have a starting price of about $650.

Silly question, but do you have it set to native 1920 x 1080 resolution? If not, you may see funny things like this, as the text will not map 1:1 with the pixels, and ClearType should be disabled in that case too (or only greyscale ClearType, not sure if Windows has that like Linux).

Wow. That cleared it right up. Thanks!

Now that I have it at 1920x1080, should I disable ClearType? It's on right now, but things look pretty good.

At native resolution, use ClearType! You can always turn it back off if it doesn't suit you.

Native resolution is important - its the only resolution where things look like they should! I have a ton of people in my company who run 22" monitors (1680x1050 native) at like 1200x800 and think it looks "good". It kills me! I had one guy go from a 17" CRT to a 22" Dell widescreen and then set the resolution to 1024x768.... ............ what the heck!
