The website for the Texas Secretary of State has exposed sensitive information, such as social security numbers and other personal data, on thousands of people in its database.

Sensitive information on Aikman, formerly a star quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys, and thousands of others is available on the Texas Secretary of State's SOSDirect Web site, according to Steven Peisner, the president of fraud prevention vendor Sellitsafe.

Eventually they will figure out that the use of Social Security numbers for your entire worth and well being is flawed.

Maybe its just me... but why don't they STOP putting our SSN on the web to begin with?

The flaw in the system clearly is how people are identified using "bits" of info...ssn, name, address, mother's maiden name, etc. This is stupid. Yes, it's convenient, but what the heck, all the criminals are getting this stuff and living the high life.

There are so many places where your info sits that it's foolish to think you actually have "personal/private" info. This is a fallacy. It does not exist.

How long will it take for someone to assemble all these breaches into some sort of master database on everyone?

Unless you or I can change these pieces of info, it's just a matter of time until someone can steal our identities. The only reason it may have not happened to you so far is because you are in there with the herd and the lion has not gotten to you yet.
