Texas Memory Systems Ram-San 330 SSD array-cache.

Just a guess, you need a system that can take 16GB of ram + ram for it's OS. And you need a bunch of Fibre channel cards, a fast processor and software and you would have what you need.

But this would not be super fast as it will be limited to the speeds of the interconnects. (eg PCI-X to RAM and out to PCI-X to Hard drive) I would not be suprized if Texas Memory used a custom system with their own ASICs on it to get thier performance.

If you just want fast storage for your system, just build a dual (or quad, doesn't matter) opteron with 16+GB of memory. Then make a RAM drive...
 
Do you mean with FC interface and all? Or just 16 GB of ram in a form you can use like a disk? There was a thread a bit ago on this forum about a similar disk in IDE form. Uses DDR, would be cheaper than a whole system. Only 8 slots, $500 or something.

I think the using the 'right' caching algorithms may make a significant difference too.

Well, the system in which I would be implementing this already has 8gb of RAM that will be used for...well,...RAM. I like the true nature of this device and the algorithmical caching of an already-made RAID array without having to configure anything further.
