testing pump, fooling motherboard, how?

Im trying start up my water cooling system, and I dont want to turn on my motherboard but I want to run my pump. Is there a cheap external power supply I can buy? or some other way then messing with my ATX cable to start my power supply??

On the 24 pin ATX connector jumper between the green wire and any black wire.
 
OK if you unplug the 24pin connector from your mobo


and you are looking at it...*(sort of as if plugging it into your face)* the part with the clup should be facing up.

you want to get a wire or piece of metal into the FOURTH SLOT FROM THE LEFT connected to the THIRD SLOT FROM THE RIGHT!

nothing will happen if you do this incorrectly (make sure you are isolated and not touching a ground just to be 100% safe) **though i did it barefoot in my garage touching everything possible practically lol**

and that will jumper the psu to turn on and be giving full power ... ive noticed some PSU's wont give all 12v when not under a big load so do not be alarmed if the pump seems sluggish this is normal.

I think Petra sells a cheap (~$3) adapter for this as well. Easier for someone like me who'd rather not use a paper clip.
 
Lol, you guys made this way to hard. Bend a paper clip into a U shape, put 1 end of the paper clip into one of connectors with a black wire going into it, and the other into the one with a green wire. Done.
 
Yeah it is not very difficult nor dangerous if you do it like it is supposed to be done. There is hardly any current whatsoever coming out of that green wire as it is just a signal wire to turn on the PSU.
