Havent posted up any of my casemods for what Ide imagine to be at least 5 years. Ive done quite a bit of neat stuff but semi-lost interest in browsing computer forums (including this one) for a number of years for whatever reason. Anyway, Im testing out a few ideas with my newest haswell computer build.

Video card back plate:

PSU cover made out of same material installed:

Plate to go over drive bay area - literally made out of a thin piece of fiber board I found next to the garbage that goes on the back of a shelf. Its cold outside so Im doing this all on the floor of my man cave... thats what vacuums are for ;).

Not worried about the edges since Im just testing out some ideas. This piece literally cost me $2 to make. I got the vinyl at a dollar store here in Japan. Surprisingly its higher quality vinyl then some garbage I ordered off ebay last year:

Excuse the phone camera pics. I tend to take all my pictures at night and have to rely on the flash so the pictures are definitely not great quality. I plan on modifying the drive plate to make it fit in a bit better though. Any suggestions/criticism is appreciated.

Alright, so I decided to try something a bit different. I sketched it out on a piece of paper and it, well, seemed legit. I forgot to mention before that this case is a Lancool (Lian Li) PC-K62.

I started out by making this plate out of the same fiber board. Its pretty much just a thin MDF and is plenty stout enough for something like this. Best of all... it was free.

I decided that the initial fitment didnt look too shabby so I made sure to get the visible edges straight and smooth + sanded the surface well that will be seen from the outside of the case. Stopped by the Japanese dollar store and grabbed another piece of silver vinyl.

I cleaned off the fiber board pretty well on both sides and started applying the vinyl. I use to do some custom car interior work and am very familiar with wrapping stuff with vinyl fabric. This kind of vinyl is a little frail (especially this dollar store version) so even after applying heat I wasnt confident when stretching it around the curves.

You can actually see where it did tear in the bottom left area when I attempted to stretch it. Its not visible from the outside of the case so Im not worried about it.

Ive worked with other brands of carbon fiber vinyl including 3m and this dollar store "crap" is actually pretty awesome for the low low price of $1. The adhesive is actually very strong and the surface texture is nice. Doesnt come in big enough sheets to do anything large though.

You can see where I had to heat and stretch it around the curved edges.

Starting to come together. I used some "industrial" clear packing tape I had to hold the blue plastic sheet onto the piece covered in vinyl. It wont ever come loose unless I physically attempt to peel it up and off.
blueblackgrey(13).jpg

I got it positioned exactly where I wanted it and used half a dozen small pieces of 3M double sided tape to hold it to the side panel.

I cleaned everything up and mounted the plexi glass back to the outside of the case.

And here are a couple completed pictures of the few pieces Ive made to spruce up the inside of my case.

I mostly felt like posting up this stuff that I made because I feel that it is aesthetically pleasing and lets all of you guys know you can make some neat stuff without spending hundreds of dollars on parts and/or custom milling, machining, laser cutting, etc.

More mods to come later including some custom lighting Im going to solder up and some external mods.
