Testing for Artifacting/Ripples

My question is how do they test for artifacts or tearing? Maybe I missed it, I did just have Lasik so it's possible.

Do they run a set benchmark? Just play games till they crash? Ideas? Or links?

artifacting is usually pretty easy to see, you'll see flickering white textures in random spots on the screen. as far as tearing goes thats hit or miss. i can't really see it even if i'm looking for it but my friend when playing on my computer can see it.
 
I remember when ATitool was the standard for stability testing, sadly it seems nothing performs that same role anymore.

I remember those days too. It was a great tool, I remember OCing my 9800 pro and artifact testing with it.

and my 9800pro 256mb is still sitting in my closet, just can't bring myself to dispose of it.
 
I guess I was looking for what they use here at HardOCP specifically, not that a tester would answer but maybe someone else has used or asked the question and I just didn't get good search results???

Anyway I'll take a look at OCCT, I've used it for testing CPU overclocks but never GPU ones.

occt uses almost the same thing as the ATiTool thing. Its a furry donut and it heats the cpu.
 
You don't really need to test for artifacts when overclocking the core on a GTX 680 or 670. It will crash the display driver long before it'll show artifacts. Heaven is great at crashing an unstable Kepler overclock.

With the memory you'll either have performance degrade, stutter, or artifacts.
