I was wondering is something like this has been done yet? I want to test various CPU heatsinks, and figured this would be the easiest way to do it:
Make a Linux live cd (or run it off flash, since it doesn't need much), have it run Prime95 or something similar to run CPU at 100%, and write the temperatures from the CPU to a log file. You'd have idle, full load, and idle again (to see how long it takes to cool back down from max). It shouldn't be too hard to make. I just didn't want to start a project if it has been done before.
It would be handy to test heatsinks from various CPU's, without running the full OS (just have MB, PS and heatsink, along with flash drive or CD).
Also, a nice liveCD with various synthetic benchmarks. Easy to use, since it can be used on various hardware without a format or anything. Writes to a log file on the flash drive...
