How do yoou know when a PSU is bad I have a Antec True Power 2.0 450. I have used a Multi meter and jumpered across the 24 pin connectot to check voltages. They all check out with tolerances. But I hook it up to the Mobo and nothing. just a high pitch squeal from the PSU. The squel was not from the fans, very strange But when I had it jumpered it ran fine no squeal just teh noise of teh fans running.

I bought a new PSU thinking the Antec was toast an Xlico Goodpower 500. I hook it up and it fires up the fans on the computer and turns on and off with the switch, but the mobo does nothing else.

What bothers me about the Antec is when I switch off the main power on thw psu as thw high pitch squeal subsides the fans jump on the machine jumped. Noty a good sign. I think my mobo is bad and I am pretty sure its because of the antec psu. I am really confused right now on what is going on with this thing. Since I did check the voltages on the Xlico and they all were good.

Am I missing soming here? I know I did not check them under load would that make a difference..

What are some thoughts on this. I am pretty sure I am buying a new mobo at min. I wish I had a way to test my cpu in another machine but I don't know anyone with an ADM 939 board. Oh well. Live and learn.

Any help is much appreciated.
 
So neither PSU works with the board? Have you pulled the board and made sure you have no shorts, board is good, etc?
 
No neither PSU works. The old antec does nothing at all when plugged into the board. except for when its switched off. Then the fans get a power bump. something I would guess is a bad thing. The new PSU just fires up the fans on the board. But will turn on and off with the case power switch. the antec does nothing in relation to the case power switch only if you throw the power switch on the PSU itself. What really has me scratching my head here is I jumpered the antec psu and its started up like it normally would and all the voltages on the 24 pin connector are in spec. But if you plug it into the board it does what I describe above. I check the voltages on the new psu to and they are good also. I am almost certain I have a bad board. I was just wondering what would make the psu's respond this way.
 
If it is a Asus board, you might have a problem with compatibility. My Asus A8N-SLI all of a sudden stopped working with my Antec NeoPower 480. I threw it into another comp and it worked fine. I picked up a hx520 and have not had the problem since. Check with the Antec Support guys. They should be able to tell you if there is any known issues out there.
 
Thanks its a MSI board and its been working for about a year and a half. I have had weird issue with it not starting up right away prior to this happening. It would post, then just stop. and sit there for about 3 minutes the boot up normally. If I reset it it would boot up normally. It been happening for a while and very inconsistently so I could never really determine what the cause was. Then a week a go I go to fire it up and nothing. So I am very confused because of the way the PSU is acting. I am ordering a ASUS board today and going from there.

But that is a good idea to talk with antec support and see if they have anything to say.
