Testing a PSU without motherboard?

Is there a way I can test to see if my new PSU is not DOA without hooking it up to a mobo?

You can jump it by connecting the green wire and one of the black wires on the 24-pin ATX connector with a wire or a metal paperclip. However, the PSU might require a minimum load to turn on and the fan may not spin unless it's loaded to a certain level.

Ya I couldn't tell at all if it was powering up. Nothing noticable happened.

I'm really concerned cause I read some reviews that a lot of people received this PSU DOA. However, I'm not going to have a board to test it on until the new EVGA board comes out in Feb/March.

Paperclip trick should work majority of the time. It's basically what Zero stated. If you need pics, google it, there's plenty of guides of how to do it.

I already tried it...its pretty simple just paperclip between the green and any of the black wires right?

Nothing happened. Does that mean odds are its dead?

Of course, to make sure the PSU isn't outputting voltages or ripples which are going to wipe out your hardware, you'd need to put load on the 12, 5 and 3.3V rails before putting it to the test with a DMM and an oscilloscope. Perhaps HardOCP will let you borrow its PSU torture device ;)
