just picked up an Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply since it was on sale. I plugged it into the wall socket, but the cooling fan doesn't come on when I turn the switch on. it's going to be a few months before I do my new build, but if my P/S isn't working, I like to exchange it now so I don't have to do a RMA.

does the fan only come on when it gets hot?
is there a way of testing it without having to hook everything up?

The fan should come on, but only when the computer is on. It doesn't turn on just because you turn the switch on. The best way to check for this is to use the paperclip method and short out the green and a black wire on the motherboard connection.

The only power supplies on the market with fans that come on only when it gets hot as I recall are the new gold rated power supplies, like the Seasonic X560 and X660.

thanks you the info. now that I think about it, it makes sense that it won't come unless the computer is turned on
