Testing a lightbox out with a P&S

Hey guys I followed a tutorial that was linked from here to build a lightbox... so I couldn't resist. I like the way this turned out, just wondering what you guys think? It was took with a Sony DSC-W230




I was expecting more of a white light, but I guess I got the "brown" color because of the glass. Can't say I'd rather have the white light.

I like the brown a lot. Its nice and warm - is the green accurate to what the vase actually looks like?

To get the white straight from the camera you'll need to set the White Balance to match the light source, whether it was Tungsten or Flash, or Daylight. Alternatively you can adjust the WB in Photoshop by using the "remove color cast" tool to set the white point.

Here's my quick 2-second edit of your image to get the background closer to whilte, it came out a little blue:


I'm pretty sure I like your orignal version better, but I would suggest finding a way to get more light into the box.

I figured out the problem - there is a setting on the camera for incandescent (which is tungsten I guess). I took some more pics and the light turned out more white. I'll post in a bit.

Looks good! Yeah, you can use the camera's white-balance setting to compensate for whatever kind of light you're using. I think I like this particular subject better w/ the brown background though, since it doesn't really seem like it'd be at home in the blank white space. You can get some cool effects by setting your camera's white balance to something other than what's actually there and using the color cast intentionally.
