test the PSU

Hey folks. Sorry if this is redundent but I could not find what I was looking for after searching. I understand there is a way to test the PSU by "jump starting" it. Can someone please explain how this is done or point me to the appropriate thread? Thanks.

The most basic test is by jumpering the green wire to any black wire in the ATX plug, you can fool the PSU into thinking theres a MoBo attached.
Now add a spare case fan and power on.
The fan should spin.
If you have a volt meter you can check the voltages of the 12v, 5v and 3.3v lines.

Now if it can put out the correct voltages under any type of load is another question, but at least you know the PSU will start under no load.

Luck ........... :D
