Test 7970 before installing waterblock?

Hey guys, I'm finally getting all the final parts in to build my new computer and I was wondering if I should test my HD7970 before installing the waterblock? If yes, will I be able to do it in my C2D system? That is the only other computer I have since the new one isn't even close to put together yet. Thanks.
 
As long as you have a PCI-E slot on your motherboard, you can test your 7970.

Yes, I would test it before installing the waterblock. That way, if you find it's defective, you don't have to go through the hassle of returning it.
 
Yep, always test the card before you yank her apart. It's a pain, but the one time you don't it'll get you :p.
 
Indeed, because if you remove the heatsink/fan you can kiss your warranty goodbye ;)
 
Alright sounds good, I'll pop it in this weekend and see how it does. Maybe I'll get more than 9-15fps in BF3 single player, unless I truly am completely CPU limited lol.
 
I've been boneheaded guys... I just finished transplanting my components to a new case with a 530 watt Hiper PSU and I never tested my 7970.:( I got so into getting the swap done I totally forgot, and now I doubt this little PSU can handle a 7970, unless you guys think I can pop it in and not load up the card so it doesn't draw too much power?
 
I wouldn't trust a 500W PSU with such a highend system. There is a recent thread where some guy is having 7970 issues probably due to this limited power. It will run, but I wouldn't stress test it. That might be asking for trouble.
 
Thats all I was going to do, pop it in to make sure it worked, no stressing at all. I could get all ghetto and use my dual PSU cable to tie in my TT 850 watt to power the 7970.
