CIO has a slideshow posted today that features Ten Technology Letdowns of 2007. I’m not sure why this is a slideshow, if you need pictures to accompany the tech items on this list, you obviously have bigger problems than technology letdowns of 2007.

We had much to hail this year, including rising IT salaries and better virtualization tools, but we also sighed over IT products and ideas that fell short. H-1B visa reform? Not likely. "Spam king" arrested? Yeah, that was a big help. <snip> Read on about what's got us feeling cheated this year.

Gotta say that this is a great read...and a bit scary.

For those who want more info before exerting the effort to click, it's a series of 3 or 4 articles about selling crimeware as a service as well as how the crimeware business is evolving and becoming more sophisticated. Towards the end, one of the researches notes how you can see that they're acting less like engineers and more like architects.

Yeah, that's not really a good list.... they just bitch about general things, it's not really related with 2007.

I totally disagree with the Zune part they had in the article. I bought one of the new Zune 8gb and I love it. The interface is very nice and the software is a huge improvement. I got tired of the iPod smugness and went with the Zune, I don't see going back to an iPod ever.

Sounds more of a personal whine list than a technology letdown list. There are many much much worse things that should've been on the list and some of the things that are on it should not be.

So what if iPhone only works on AT&T. It's not like roaming cost anything anymore.

And the Vista complaint was very uninformative and shows lack of knowledge of the operating system. All new operating systems are slow at first until the hardwares get faster. XP certainly was.

I am tottally agree.
The Zune format is much nicer and has less bullshit to deal with then Itunes and their Ipods in general.

I had an Ipod, then went to a SanDisk player (broke that one), and went to a Zune.

I can't see myself ever going back either.
Having the ability to support more then fucking quicktime is a blessing.
Keeping things down to one format to me just does not make sense.

Zune all the way.

My biggest letdown is no SED TV ... The best plasma and LCDs aren't quite there yet... We need better...and more choices..

I pretty much disagree with your example.

MP-3 killed, or is killing the HI FI business because people don’t care how music sounds as long as it’s cheap. The same holds true for HD TV.

HD was on a tremendous growth pattern until the big box stores got a hold on the market and found people didn’t give a damn about Picture fidelity either, all they wanted and still want is cheap.

The computer monitor business is becoming the same way, moving backwards to cheap instead of forward which will cost more.

There are some fantastic HD TVs on the market at the moment by Pioneer and NEC and Panasonic etc but they are all in the 4k to 8k range. Most people balk at a grand for a big screen nowadays yet in the early 2000’s that same customer would pay eighteen hundred bucks for a good 27” Sony tube NTSC TV.
