Hey.. i want to wait for the new line of cards to come out but i need something for now until then.... I want the card to be able to play Doom III, HL2 and all that jazz without any problems. I was thinking about the 9600XT because its good on my wallet and i still can get some gaming out of it. Although, i found a still sealed 9800XT for sale for about $375. I have the money for this and i think it is a really good deal so i was thinking that i would get that and it should hold me long enough for the new cards to come out and go down in price. What does everyone else think? Should i get that 9800XT or should i get something more like a 9600XT?

you said your waiting for the new ones so im not sure. that 9800XT is a great deal and you could probley resell it for more than that. but if your just waiting for a new batch get a 5900 se/xt they perform 2 times as well as the 9600Xt for about 30 bucks more.

if you are fast, you can get the 9800 pro on newegg for $208 today, which is undeniably the best deal out there.

hmm.. this is a real tough desicison... i can either get that 9800pro for $208 or the 9800XT for $375

well..the new line of cards are coming out in april aren't they? that's not TOO awful long away...plus HL2 and D3's release dates aren't exactly set in stone either. The last I heard D3 wasn't going to be released untill late april...it could always be pushed back. If I were you, i'd just wait.

But then again i'm not you...

I dunno..i've got nothin:(

If the new cards come out in April i'd be surprised. They say thats when they're gonna be out but they'll probably push it back. but i see your point. I'll probably just go with the 9800PRO.

I wonder how much the new cards are gonna cost.

Except at full DX9 compliant games.

to date there are none. the 9800 XT is just a overclocked Pro just go with the 9800 pro. 9600XT's are far worse than 5900's

Halo?

Far Cry?

I don't know why you're considering the XT for nearly $200 more over the 9800 pro. I would buy the pro now, and save the extra $200 for a next-gen card.

If you could wait, then wait til the new cards come out which should be soon. If you wanted to get the 9800xt, then wait til ATI introduces it new card so the xt can come down in price. But if you want a temporary for now, nothing beats this.

It's on sale right now so IF I WERE YOU, I would get that.

Actually I did get it. A few weeks ago I bought that card and I'm more than happy with it. There's no game out there to this date, that my card can't handle, and I'm running on an AMD T-bird 1.4.
