I just upgraded my processor, Mobo, and Video Card and my system has become very unstable. My system specs are:

CPU: Athlon XP 2600+ Palomino
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7NF-RZ
RAM: 2x 512 MB Crucial PC2100 (Running in Dual Channel)
Video Card: AOpen 6600 GT AGP
Hard Drive: Western Digital 120 gig SE
Lite on 16x DVD Rom
LIte on Dual layer dvd burner
SB Live value
Generic Floppy
Generic 300 W Ghetto power supply (Which I think is the problem)
Windows XP Pro SP 2 Fresh Install

I have installed Speed Fan to check my temps, which are on the highside but reasonable I think. Idle is around 49 - 50 C and full load is around 57 - 60 C. I have tried everything to bring these temps down but I have come to the conclusion that it is the location of the computer. Now, with speed fan I am getting some ridiculous voltage readings:

VCore 1: 1.71V
VCore 2: 2.75V
+3.3V: 3.26V
+5V: 6.85V
+12V: 11.71V
-12V: -1.33V (Varies between -.33V to -11V) :confused:
-5V: -1.03v (Varies between -1.00 to -4.6V) :confused:
+5V: 4.57 (Varies between 3 V to 5V) :confused:
VBat: 3.17

My question's are:

1) Could the speedfan readings be correct. I have already ordered this 420W PS:

(Thermaltake Silent PurePower, 420W ATX power supply.UL, CSA, TUV, CE Approved. Intel Pentium 4 Compliant )


2) Could the temps be the problem. These were the same temps I got on my 1600+ on a ECS K7S5A, which ran stable as a rock. I heard some where that Gigabyte boards were affected by temperature.

3) Please recommend any thing else I could check in the mean time. My brain is fried.

Yeah definitely start with the power supply. Those readings are way out of spec.
Some advice:
1) 300 Watts is not enough for that system.
2) Never use a generic power supply. Those readings are way out of spec.
 
Thanks for confirming my suspicions guys.... Could running this system until the new PS comes cause any damage?

I don't think you should turn on that power supply ever again...
 
The best use for that powersupply would be chucking it at the car of someone you truly dispise... Watching someone drive to school/work with a brick stuck halfway through their windshield is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen, and I think a power supply with cords dangling everywhere whould be 5x funnier :D
