Seems a little high for idle. I'm gonna put a 80mm fan down there till I get get a different chipset cooler. My chipset cooler is hanging right out in front of the damn video card fan.

I'm guessing you have the HR-05 SLI, correct? My solution was to order a Accelero X2 for the 1950, your solution might be to take off the plastic shroud and jerry rig a fan right on top of the copper cooler itself. VR zone did and OCed the 2900 to 880 core.

That would be the cooler. I took the HR-05 SLI off to try to flip it around and it doesn't fit. I just ordered a Evercool VC-RE from newegg. I hope they ship it out today. Man this sucks.

Cancel the order. The VC-RE wont fit under the card, it will hit the top of the cooler and fan.

For right now leave the HR-05 SLI and wait until some 3rd party release an aftermarket cooler for the 2900. Or like i said, you could try taking off the shroud and zip-tie a fan onto the copper bit. Honestly, I had the X1950's stock cooler on with my HR-05 SLI(same problem, the chipset cooler blocked the fan), sure the temps rose a bit, but no worries.

WOAH WOAH WOAH! Please clarify! I have a DFI NF4 Ultra-D right now WITH an Evercool VC-RE installed on the chipset. My X1900XTX fit fine this way. Are you saying the HD 2900XT will NOT fit my DFI NF4 Ultra-D WITH VC-RE?! Yikes. This sucks!

What is taller, the stock DFI chipset fan or the Evercool? I always thought they were the same or the DFI was taller. If the 2900XT does NOT fit I guess that means an 8800GTX won't fit either due to similar issues?
 
The evercool is slightly taller. When I had the stock DFI cooler, my X1950 fit just fine. The only reason why i ordered the HR-05 SLI over the VC-RE is because i needed my x16 PCIE slot back. The X1950 was touching the fan and sides of the VC-RE, not allowing for the little fan to rotate.
 
If you use the JingTing heatpipe cooler on the DFI NF4, and mount it so the fins are BEHIND the video card, it will fit fine with X1900 or HD2900.

Wow the JingTing is expensive, $33.95 + Shipping, but I guess having it would be cheaper than buying a HR-05 and Accelero X2. However it would be alot louder since the stock vacuum cleaner is still attached to the X1900. My setup is absolutely silent: HR-05, Thermaltake Big Typhoon + Panaflo, 4(2 extra fan slots created) Yate Loons and the Accelero. I love it.
 
Weird. I'm now sitting at 68 degrees idle but I haven't seen my temps go above 72 degrees during game play.
