temperature problems with x1900xt

ok this is annoying, i put in my x1900xt, and its running about 51 degrees idle. pretty hot it seems. but anyway, i enabled ati overdrive and hit the automated overclocking option. after about 4-5 minutes, the temperature is about 89 degrees celcius!! then all of a sudden, i get an error report, saying the ATI software screwed up. wow. amazing.

what should i do? this is way too hot, right?

Actually, you did the test right? where it will see how much your computer can handle? the temp will get that high, mine went up to 91-92 'c. Mine also locked up once also, then I tried again and it went all the way through. Normal play temp is around 70-75 for me playing CS:S. I called ATI and they said just as long as temp. don't go to 90's - 100's then it's ok. Mid 70's is normal for card. I wouldn't worry tooo much.

ya i guess it is normal, i just played bf2 for an hour and checked temp, 71 degrees. hmm... im just confused, the clock speeds that overdrive starts screwing with.. are those 3d or 2d clocks?

wait, how do you up the 3d memory clocks? i get how to change the core clocks, you use the CCC automatic configuration (overdrive) thing, but memory clocks dont change, and you cant bring them above 800 anyway (which is way under what it is stock in 3d mode.. i know that the readings from CCC are 2d mode...)

While messing around trying to overclock both a X1900XTX and X1900CF at the same time, ATITool didn't store the modified fan speed for the X1900CF. Watching the 3DMark5 for artifacts and such, I kept a hand at the back of the pc to feel how much heat was being chucked. There wasn't much air from the crossfire card, and when I put my hand on the card itself it was damn hot!

Exited out the benchmark and ATITool reported the temperature as 106C! It's still working, and at a fan speed of 100% it rarely gets above 50C at full load. Tough cookies these X1900's.

I ran my x800xt with no heatsink for 5 mins...(twice, not on purpose) It hit 110C degrees before the software kicked in and shutdown computer. Video card was running fine entire time with no artifacts showing.
