Temperature problems with watercooled CPU

I've just built a system with a Q6600 B3 and a swiftech H20-220 Apex watercooling kit

Under load running prime95 on 4 cores (Stock frequency & voltages):
i get stable temps at first and slowly moves to 55c then it crazy shoots at 80c and then drops staight back down to 40c and then slowly creeps back up to 55c again and crazy shoots up to 80c... and the cycle repeats itself every 2 mins

Idle temps: 25c

I've tried reseating cpu block and reapplying thermal paste (artic AS5) but that didn't help.

This is driving me crazy.. any ideas?
 
Maybe I'm missing something but that seems pretty normal to me....

What's your idle and ambient?

I don't hit anywhere close to 80C with my setup. But it might be because I have a triple instead of a double...
 
Is your pump slowing down or stopping? This isn't a cpu seating problem.

Are you monitoring your water temps? More will be gained by monitoring the temp of the water before and after the radiator along with your ambient (air temperature) temps.
 
I have no personal experience watercooling, but I have to agree with the other posters - this has nothing to do with CPU mounting - it seems like you have a flow problem - almost certainly caused by the pump slowing down, but possibly caused debris in the WC loop blocking the flow.

Feel / listen / monitor RPM on the pump first. If that's not the problem, did you clean out your radiator before setting up your loop, using boiling water and multiple rinses?
