I just got a superflower fan master and set up the temp probes for my cpu hdd and video card. I am getting about a 10 degree lower reading than with speedfan. which one do you think is most accurate. pretty much just wondering if i can ditch speedfan and trust my temp probes. Also it is a Asus motherboard a7v 266-e ( ya i know ...im really behind).

edit- sorry forgot to mention i was talking about my cpu temps being 10degrees different
 
have you made sure that the probes are in firm contact with the hardware and have no areas of the diode exposed to air?

the thermal diode on the card/drive is probably in a different location than the probe to begin with, so the readings might both be equally accurate, just in diferent areas......

where do you have the probe on the CPU?

is there some particular reason that you want to ditch speedfan?

are any of the temps from either of the sources high enough to be a real source for concern?
 
the probe is positioned with the edge of it touching the core of the cpu, like ive seen people do in reviews before. My temp atm under full load is 59C with speedfan and 48 with the probe. I got a fan controller to manage my fans and thought id utilize the temp sensors also and it would be one less program running in the background.

now, have you used a bit of thermal paste in between the probe and the core?

is the diode touching the core, or that little bit of plastic that sticks out past the diode? (assuming that it is a similar probe to the ones that i have worked with)

if the probe is making good contact with the core, i would say that the diode is the more accurate reading, given the calibration problems with many CPU diode/motherboard relationships.
