Well right now I have a 2500+ oc'd to 3200+. When I boot it up, its around 28 degrees, and under heavy load it gets between 40-50 degrees. Well im about to do some more overclocking and here is my question. What exactly will lowering the temperature do? Do lower temperatures just have higher stability? Is it just safer? Or does it actually allow me to over clock more. I want to know if im going to be limited by my chip or by the termperature of it. I hope you see what im saying. Thanks.
 
We really need to know more about your system before we can give you real help. What voltage does your 2500 have to run to get to 3200 speeds? Is it prime stable? If you have the volts set real high already, you might have run into the chip's max.
 
I havent had to touch the voltage, it runs everything fine except for prime95. It runs into an error about 5 minutes into it. Other than that it seems stable.
 
If you're that overclocked and your load temps are in the 50's, I'd say that's pretty good. My AthlonXP @ 1433 (not oc'ed) runs full load in the high 50's. I'm working on that though.
 
The chip will be the limiting factor. The speed of processors is a range and not a set specific speed. They are rated lower than the max they will actually run as a guarantee that they will operate stable at the rated speed. If your system is stable at a given clock speed, lowering the temp further won't do anything more for it. I would say the cooler you get it, the more you can OC it to the limit of the chip.

then you're not stable.

Well thanks guys I think you cleared it up. But I dont see why you say my system isnt stable if I cant run Prime95. I can run every single program without a hiccup and havent had any crashes/freezes. That would be my definition of stable, I guess yours is running some trivial program?
