temp and watt usage for build

hey all,

I just put a WHS together.

SUPERMICRO MBD-X7SPA-HF-O
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB)
LIAN LI PC-Q08B
SeaSonic X650 Gold 650W - the fan never needs to turn on so entirely silent.
3xSAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB
1x120mm low speed fan
1x140 low speed fan

so as the title says,
I am running temps of cpu 39-40c idle, 46c while active, and system temps of 39c while active, and lower at idle
and at Idle I use 38 watts, and while active it uses 43 watts.

are these numbers good, keep in mind that this computer does not standby or anything. so the idle numbers are while the computer is not asleep or anything.

I would have chosen Ecogreen or Caviar Green drives. They use less power, and the Spinpoint are overkill for a WHS IMHO.
 
As NichoTL said, you could've shaved a few watts off by using a "Green" drive. That aside, despite the X650 being an excellent PSU, you get lower efficiency with it at such low loads (under 80%) which means a few more wasted watts. But overall with different drives and PSU (something like pico-PSU I guess) you'd probably only be saving something like ~8-10W under load max.

I think it's actually more than that: from Green to Black you can have a difference of 4-5W at load, so we are talking maybe 12-15W load. Probably less idle: 6-9W.

Plus the PSU efficiency. Those Seasonic X are better than average, though not adapted to this particular setup. PicoPSU would clearly be the best choice.
 
The hard drives that the OP is using are more efficient, quieter, and use less power than the F3 and at some times the Greens. Isn't it also part of Samsung's Ecogreen line? Agreed about the PSU though.
 
You are making a good point: the name is Spinpoint but the description seems to be pointing towards Ecogreen. They usually are 2 different lines...
