Television/Display for around $2000

Ok, so I'm looking to put together an htpc setup in my living room for about $3000 total. I have a pretty good idea what I'm looking at computer wise, but I've never purchased a TV in my life, and the range of options is astounding. I'm a musician and my vision is to have a htpc that I can do some basic scoring/writing and practicing on, play a little world of warcraft in my off time, and have a few people over and watch movies/tv. Viewing/working distance will be approximately 8 feet away. The other consideration is depth. the way the room is laid out, the thinner the tv, the better, there will be a walkway directly in front of the tv. I've been looking at 30-32'' lcd's, but anything other than the bottom of the line seems to run $2200+ at retail stores. I've seen dlps around the right size and price, but don't know anything about them. I'd like to keep the tv purchase under $2000 unless there's something really special available. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

Have a look at this set Optoma RD50A . Lots of happy new owners in this Thread.
I've got the RD50H, same set except the A model now has the HD2+ chip versus my HD2. Mine also cost $2400 in early March. Wish I would have waited a bit. I am very happy with my set though. I've got my PC hooked up to it via the DVI connection. My DVD player and HD Cable box are connectted via component cables. There is also a VGA port on the TV but it's on the front and text is much better using DVI. I play games on mine and its great FarCry, HL2 and currently playing Doom3. The native resolution is 720p which means 1280x720 60Hz. Widescreen, bigscreen gaming with Onkyo surround has ruined me, I haven't even turned on my usual computer since setting this up. The PC I'm using does really well and isn't really high end. P4 2.8g, 1g ram, 160 HD, Leadtec 6600GT, using onboard sound and nic in an Antec Aria case. omething I didn't factor into my budget when buying the set...afterwards I wound up getting surround Onko HTS770 ($400) upconverting DVD player Zenith DVB 318 ($150) universal remote Logitech Harmony 767 ($125) new entertainment center ($200) a UPS for everything($100) various cables ($100+) upgrading cable service to HD.....Just some things to consider, but all worth it in my opinion.

peace.

Thanks for the info, and the recommendation on the tv. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the tv and some components to upgrade my machine, but my one question is concerning the vid card. You said you have your vid card plugged into the dvi in the tv. I currently have a Radeon 9600xt and I'm thinking about buying the ati hdtv adapter. I'm wondering if I need the adapter if the TV has a dvi in. Would I have to powerstrip my card settings to get it to display the correct res without the adapter, and would it automatically display correctly if I had the adapter? Basically I want to know if I should buy the adapter or not. Thanks for the help!
