How would you wire up a telephone system (like in a house) with cat5?

Be more specific- how many lines are you trying to utilize? trying to reutilize standard phone jacks or replacing with (for instance) a Levition wall plate? Got a 66 block?

A phone will work with just one pair, start with Blue/Blue white as a pair, then Orange/Orange white, Green/Green White, and finally Brown/Brown white

When wiring for 2 pairs per phone line I group blue and orange - b/bw for red/green and o/ow for yellow/black and then swap b/bw for g/gw and o/ow for br/brw

A 66 punchdown block is the cleanest and easiest way to make this happen .
