TDX for Q9450?

New brass top for my old TDX currently mounted on my opteron (not MC-TDX), or is it time to buy a new water block (aka fusion v2 or MC-TDX).

Will this work well enough or should I really look into throwing down some cash?

The one thing I like about the DD blocks is the option for the brass top. After having all my blocks with lucite/acrylic/lexan etc tops crack I really like the all metal top from a reliability standpoint. How reliable are the Fuzion V2's Is the top made of delron?
 
Delrin is a very soft plastic. It would take about 24 hours of immersion in acetone to really get it brittle.

In short, it's very, very, safe compared to something like lucite which has cracked on me, personally, in the past.
 
Ok, well my plan was to save some cash, just order the brass top for the TDX I have for now. Then switch to a MC-TDX later and already have the brass top for it.

How much performance would the Fusion V2 have over the MC-TDX, and which one will restrict more flow (I will have at least a chipset block and video card in the same loop, possibly SLI cards in the future). I believe it was the origional Fusion that was too restrictive for a multi block loop.

I'm not up to date just yet, but I'm wondering if the MC-TDX route might make more sense for me?

And I've only seen one instance where delrin cracked, and it was with a Storm.
 
Says it needs alot of pressure, not sure I will have that unless I change to 2 loops which probably will not happen.
 
The D-Tek block is the most balanced CPU block out. I've used quite a few, and if you are shooting for quiet operation with a CPU/GPU on the same loop, this one is hard to beat. Make sure you buy the Pro Mounting kit as it makes swapping CPU's easier, aka, not removing the motherboard each time.

Thanks for the tip, how much difference am I looking at from the TDX or MC TDX? Got any decent benches or anything? I don't htinka deg or 2 is going to affect my OC much with the Q9450, but if its like 5+ deg better then its probably worth upgrading now. I'm on a bit of a budget trying to stretch the life of my existing blocks. Looks like DD is still the best for NB waterblocks, I have a maze4 for NB block (also restrictive). Considering upgrading but I don't want to buy new stuff unless its going to make a noticable improvement.
 
Running the same Q9450 on my D-Tek, and using a Swiftech MCR220 rad, I'm averaging 39c on all 4 core in a room maintaining 27c ambient temp (yea, warm room). That is with cooling an 8800GTX in the loop. Its been rock solid for the past 6 months. I think this is the longest I've stayed with one block in some time. Thing is though, I am running on the v1 version of the Fusion. Supposedly the v2 models have a 3-5c better delta than my current block. I'm also running the Quad Nozzle but don't see any benefit as opposed to running without the nozzle kit. I'm sure your delta will change for the better with the swap since the Fuzion is a less restrictive block than your current TDX. I'd link you to a water block shoot out over at XSS, but their forums are down for upgrades at the moment.

What do you plan on running for fluid? I'm currently running Feser One based fluid with great results. Blocks stay clean since biocide is mixed in.
 
I use blue Audi coolant (Pentosin?) mixed slightly more than it needs to be with distilled water. Probably not absolute best temps but I only change the fuild when tearing down or fixing cracked lexan blocks etc. Last time it was up for over 2 years without messing with it.

for $15 I can re-use my TDX, I'm not not sure if it will keep the chip cool enough?
 
It will work, probably not the best though. I saw about a 3-4C drop on my old AMD Opteron 165 when I went from the TDX to the Fusion. The Q9450 would probably see even more benefit, not to mention the V2 is better than the V1. So I would say at least a 5-8C improvement probably. It could be more just due to the fact that you have a larger die area your cooling and the cooling patch on the TDX is rather tiny.
 
5-8 is pretty significant. I think I might pickup the Brass top so I can re-use teh TDX to get thigns running, then swap it for a Fusion later.
