Hi,

So I bought a cheap compaq evo desktop d51u system to use it as an always on low performance/power server or as a box for running untangle.

after I received it i cracked open the case to checkout the power supply and it says it outputs 50W max on the power supply.

This can be confirmed by looking on the website:

Looking under Ultra-Slim Desktop

Item #10

Compaq specs

Then I ran cpuz and the from the best I can tell it is a Pentium 4 Northwood 2.0 (2.0ghz)
So I looked up that chips TDP on wikipedia:

Wikipedia

there it says that chip has a tdp of > 50 watts.

This thing also has a hard drive and room for cd drive so how can the chip itself have such a high tdp while the power supply is only outputting 50 watts? Wouldn't the chip itself burn out the power supply?

What am I missing here?

Thanks.

You have the mobile version of the processor, not the regular desktop one. It's 32w.
