tccd: command rate affect overclocking?

Trying to reach 260mhz on my TCCD (patriot)... So far I've had to drop timings from 2-3-3-6 to 2.5-4-3-8 to reach 245mhz (stability testing there right now), and I'm wondernig... would the command rate (I'm at 1T) help overclocking if I dropped it to 2T? And would the performance difference between that and loosening the timings more be more or less significant (which costs me less?)?

Edit: at 2.7v right now.

if you can't do 250mhz at 2.5-3-3, something's wrong, as that's what tccd is rated for out of samsung's fab

2T will help only if your mobo/memory controller isn't up to the task of driving the ram you have at higher mhz with 1T.... which may be possible.
if you do get a bump in ram speed with 2T.. keep it at 2T if you get more than a ~15-20mhz increase.

what's your rig by chance? :D

well, then I'm screwed. :( Getting errors at 2.5-3-3-8 (2.7v) at 250. Won't boot at 3-3-3-8 (won't pass post). Stable at 245, but that's about it. I don't want to add more voltage to it, but I may...

this is an A8N-SLi, 3800X2, and 1gb (2x512) of Patriot TCCD (brainpower PCB). Dual-channel

latest bios? try the other two slots? :D

I'll check the bios, but it's pretty recent. As for the otehr slots, the manual specifically says use it in the 2 they're in, but I'll try. There's clearance though, so I can give it a shot.

No what Eclipse meant was to reverse the sticks in the existing slots...this helps sometimes.

i actually meant try the other two slots.. probably the black ones... though switching the sticks is worth a shot too.

What really seems strange is that I can't get past post with cas3. Ever. Doesn't matter what the FSB is, it won't post at cas3. :(

I'm looking at it now, trying to decide if it's worth the hassle of trying to move the sticks. I'd have to remove my XP-120 to get to them, and that's a royal PITA. Really tempted to run them at 2.5-3-3-6 @ 217 (5:6 divider, running the CPU at ~2600)

gotta get it stable to try and flash the bios, Idon't have a floppy drive

running at 233mhz (285 HTT, 9x multi).

hmmmmmm, i guess that's not terribly bad. though all the secondaries are way loose, it shouldn't negatively effect clock speeds.

also.. you should be able to flash the bios in windows if you don't have a floppy drive, using winflash :D

as for why you can't boot at cas3.. i really have no idea. it's almost as if you really have bh-5, not tccd.. though you shouldn't be able to get 233mhz with 2.7v if that was the cas. :p

well, I'm only one bios revision behind... I'll update and see if that changes anything.

Can't use winflash, won't run with ASUS's bios files. So no BIOS upgrades for me.

If you're having problems with Live Update, this thread where I just posted might have an answer for you. Regards "unpatching" a recent Microsoft patch.

:)
That did it, after briefly turning all of my characters into japanese ones >_< :) Bios updated, now I can't boot at my previous settings. Time to feel out the ranges again... and start over from scratch :-p I REALLY just want this stuff to run at 260... 280 would be perfect, but even 260 would be fine (1:1)

System seems buggy with the new bios, even at default settings. Returning to 1013 bios. Fuck the RAM, this is stupid. I'll either run it at 233, or go buy some decent ram from a real company. I should have known to not leave Corsair/Crucial/Mushkin... silly no-name ram.

Well, latest bios fastest ram speed is 203. 204 or higher, I get 32000+ errors in memtest, with ANY timings.

Did you compare the memory timings in A64 between the bios's?

Your memory is really loose and hurting your performance.

Here's a screenshot of my timings.

This has gotten me a 33.7sec 1million SuperPi which I'm happy with.

Really loose? I'm running 2-3-3-8 @ 200. The timings are identical between bioses. I loosened the timings up to gain FSB speed, which is far more important for performance than the timings are, since it lets me take the CPU up past stock
