im getting a tatto over winter break and i need help designing it.

im currently 17 years old, but my parents could give a damn about me so im getting this done in a few weeks.

well, the name "shipwreck" was always my "tag" or whatever you want to call it. the name just appealed to me.

well i was thinking of like one of those old stories of sinking ships getting pulled down by monsters. i wanted something like a ship half in water, being pulled down by like an octopus, and the words shipwreck in old english. btw the tatto is going to be on my left torso/lower chest area.

can someone help me out? i couldnt really find pictures on google

Not to be critical but you know you'll forever have a ship and the words shipwreck on your body, when your 60 you'll have to explaing that it was your gaming alias lol. GL

Make sure this isnt something you will regret in 5 years, 20 years, or the rest of your life by getting some nickname no one in real life knows you by.

i think you should talk to the tattoo artist, they probably have more ability to draw out ideas.

sorry, i didnt explain this enough. shipwreck was not only my gaming alias, but i have been tagging it for years. graphing, signatures, you name it. i recently stopped tagging after the city of fremont fined me 500 dollars for my 2nd offense. shipwreck has more sentimental meaning to me, not only is it a band, but the lyrics struck me hard and had an impact on my life, to keep thinking on the bright side. other bands such as life long tragedy kept me going. ill explain more later. but yeah maybe a tatoo artist would do me better. so instead, maybe you guys can help me find pictures of ships being pulled down by seamonsters. i know ive seen some before, but i just cant seem to find them

Ultimately it's your decision. I say refrain from it. It's hard to say how different you'll be in twenty years, but it's a negative image, and I know I wouldn't want to see it on me every day. I know it's sentimental, but really think about it first.

I've heard that you should always think about a tatoo for a one whole year, then make the descision

I hate to repeat the same thing but I've got to say wait as well. I wanted a tatoo ever since I was about 14. For a number of years I tried to get one but either didn't have the right design or didn't have the $$ to do it. Took me about 10 years to finally get something (and the design changed A LOT during that time). I'm sooo glad I didn't get the tatoo I originally wanted. I now have 3 tatoos and am hoping to get a few more before I'm done (I'm 36 now). In my youth, I never really considered how a tatoo would look to my future wife, or how it may affect my career if it was visible. Hell, I never expected to ever marry or actually have an office of my own for a job when I was a teenager. Just think long and hard about it.

And, yet another "think about it first" post.

I would never, ever discourage anyone form getting a tattoo, as that would make me a bit of a hipocrite. That being said, put alot, and I mean alot of thought into what you have done and where. I can tell you from experience that you may not really like what you have done all that much 10 years down the road. And there is only so much that can be done as far as cover up work is concerned.

I would really recommend keeping them above the elbows and below the collar, Just my advice.

Try to watch Miami Ink on TLC. Those guys aren't just amazing tattoo artists, they're very thoughtful regarding their customers. If a young customer comes in wanting a neck tattoo, they'll tell them it's a bad idea.

Basically, until you've established a good, stable life, career, etc., be tasteful. You don't want to make any bad impressions on people who could potentially and significantly affect your life.

You should definitely go to the artist you'll be working with. I always go to the same guy and follow the same procedure I've used since my first tattoo. I tell him my idea for the tattoo, he draws it out for me (usually several versons), then I make an appointment for at least two weeks out. I take that time to really think it over and if by the end of the two weeks I still want it, I go in and get it done. If not, I call him up and tell him I am going to wait. I have from my shoulder to elbow done on both arms and I don't regret anything I have gotten.

I think most people regret them when they run in a place and point at the wall saying "I want that one!" You wouldn't believe the amount of people that do that.

1) Go to www.deviantart.com
2) Save us the story, we aren't psychologist who analyze your morality and reasoning for you freedom of choice
3) Think more about it
4) Talk to a tatoo designer first - They offer a lot of ideas as for what designs fit best where on your body. There are a lot of other things they know that you've never even though of, like how muscles shape tatoos in certain regions even when slightly strained.
5) Think even more about it until it's perfected
6) For antichrist's sake .... go to a tatoo forum and ask, do you really expect computer related forums to give the BEST advice on tatoos lol

Sound like you need to put the action off quite a ways. Not to be condescending, but you are far away from pleasing yourself down the road if you just have a hormonal urge.
