I talked my dad into letting me keep my computers running while I am away at school, I had to explain to him why I want to keep them on and the whole distributed computing thing and said I would help pay for the electricity bill if it is a big deal. That is about 17K PPD being saved and Q6600, 8800GTX, 8800GT, and 2X 8800GS, a massive amount of processing power that won't be going to waste. All for the [H]orde!:D

I should save power anyways, i am taking the AC out today and in a few weeks it will start to get cold here in New England and during the winter i won't be here so no need for the heater and keeping the window open will cool the computers good.

Kudos to you for "conning the ol' man" into permittting continued folding. A pat on the back for your offer to help with the bill.

Now if only I could get my kids to be this thoughtfull.....

Nice planning. One other selling point would be that you would be helping with the heat for the cold months!! Even not having to heat your room if you do keep it warmer by folding the conecting rooms will be warmer since inside walls are usually not insulated. Keep up the good work, no idle hardware!! Fold on,

It was no easy task as they are old fashioned and not very tech savvy at all, not really with the times, but i assured them that i was keeping my computers running for a righteous cause.

Congrats on conning your "Pops" on the keepin' your boxen folding when you went to school. I wouldn't credit his questions or curiosity to not being "tech savvy" I think a lot of it has to do with the exposure to the many worthless cons going on today (ie bullshite contractors screwing hurricane victims, cookie bake sales, you gots to sell a lot of cookies to balance our (USA) budget deficit at a cookie bake sale, etc) and the why to the complacency and ingnorance in our society (USA). Just a couple of examples of what I mean, I mentioned "folding" to a business guy and his reply was "how much money can you make folding", then I brought it up to several medical professionals at the VA hospital (I'm on a VA disability) and they didn't even know what I was talkin' about. (it's hard for a layman to explain "distributed computing" even to the so called "tech savvy", I'm pretty close to M$, lots of pseudo tech savvy people around here)

Anyhoo, these are just my opinions :p

Once again congrats ;)

Edit: I was not knocking the "cookie bake sale deal" I just think that all that devotion, energy, planning, etc could be put to better use, like financing edicational field trips, better school enviornments like better books, promoting health issues like "teenage pregnancies, etc. Just to name a few things that selling cookies might effect and leave the dealing with several billions or trillions of dollars to the elected officials.

Keep on a' DCin'
