I am indeed a noob and need help with the lingo. Please post all Abrieviations and words such as Shens(....What is shens!!!!?). I need to become infromed so i dont sound totally like a retard. Thanx.
 
I had to look shens up, but (according to an online slang dictionary) it is short for shenanigins and in context it means that something is made up. Ie, people would be calling shens if I was boasting about having built a 10,000$ computer.
 
Oh than you so much....Ive been trying to figure that one out for a month now....seriously. :rolleyes:
 
OMG! I was looking through a pile of Incomprehencible/absolutly uselss/ stupid sites with common acronyms what not and i saw "bandwidth", which is a word previously not known to me. Now i looked up what it meant and i gotTHIS

And as i read i began to fall asleep as iff i was relapsed into my 10th grad emath class. Could someone give me a more simple definition.
 
This was taken from the first sentence of the last paragraph. This is basically what you need to know about bandwidth in all hardware forums

The term bandwidth is also used, informally, and by extension from the above, to mean the amount of data that can be transferred through a connection in a given time period

Alyosha if you were boasting about a $10,000 desk we'd believe you though.

I'd say that "shens" was used on the HardForums first. I was a lurker here long before I joined and I remember seeing it a long time ago here with people saying "I call shenanigins". After that, I saw it used a lot on other forums and of course all the idiots at GenMay use it all the time now - and many of them came from here.
 
Yes I am a N00B, I have already stated that but i also ALREADY stated that i (already did) look up tech lingo and most of it was stuff i already knew such as lol, asl, brb, bbl, etc, little crap like that. I need to know stuff like Technical names like SO, ISP, AMD (Im not sure this one is right), etc....Acronyms for peiciec to my computer harware and stuff like that.....

also, yeah ive seen genmay,(the new one)....I wanted to get onto it becaue i loved beeing able to talk just about anything i wanted to, but I have MSN and it has that and many other email domains blocked from adding and i dont know what email addy to have to get past the block, it even has the new Gmail blocked :( . it makes me sad....but, oh well, some of thoes people on there are total Idgets anyway.
 
AMD...it stands for Advanced Micro Devices; the (biggest) competitor to Intel in the CPU arena. You'll soon become familiar w/ terms like these...just read threads, and then post questions when you aren't sure about an acronym ;)
 
ISP == Internet Service Provider - the company that grants you access to the Internet. Verizon DSL, America Online, Comcast, Optimum Online, Earthlink, Roadrunner... are examples of ISPs.

And I really don't count brb, lol, jk, asl, bbl...blah blah as tech lingo. I abhor their use, but that's just me.
 
thanks for all of ur guy's help... ill just keep this thing going...I have ALOT of Lingo questions.

...you got some good resources for acronyms. But - the intent of the General[H]ardware fourm is for questions dealing directly with hardware.
